Wiseman, seconded by C. David White and unanimously passed that the Elementary Schools be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on March 14, 1989, for a reading text adoption workshop. State Board Booklet State School Board Member Neola Brown met with the board and introduced a booklet prepared by the. State Board titled "A Shift in Focus". Will require local level implementation to be successful. More information will be available at a later daie. Parents Concerns Connie Chris Marshall met with the board and expressed several concerns. 1. When drill team competition is held again at Beaver High School that visiting school be more accommodated in a first class manner. 2. Suggested that more volunteer help be used in the schools. 3. Keep in closer contact with Special Ed students and their parents. 4. Objected to the way she said that Superintendent Haslem had treated her when she complained about the drill team situation. Normand Thompson met with the board and asked that the 6th grade students be allowed to attend the Utah Power and Light Alternate Energy Contest in Richfield on March 29th. After discussion on the matter, it was moved by Wayne W. Wiseman, seconded by Karl I. Truman that the request be granted and a bus be provided with principals working out details. Resignation of Teachers The resignations of teachers, Richard Carter and Dan Barney, were reviewed and accepted. Expressed appreciation for the work done, but individual file to show resignation before contract completion. Wayne W. Wiseman moved that a letter as indicated above be written by the Superintendent and placed in their file. The motion was seconded by Karl I. Truman and unanimously passed. Teachers Aide M.E.S. Home School Request of Garuda Terra for a home school for student Jerimiah Gark was reviewed. After considerable discussion it was moved by Karl I. Truman, seconded by C. David White and unanimously passed that subject to all requirements being met, the request would be granted. Yearbook Expenditure Karl I. Truman moved that the yearbook expenditure request of Milford High in the amount of $2,440.00 be approved. The motion was seconded by Wayne W. Wiseman and unanimously passed. Bills The bills were presented and explained by the Business Manager. Karl I. Truman moved that the bills be approved. The motion was seconded by C. David White and unanimously passed. Beaver High School Journalism Club requested help in purchasing a computer and Beaver High School Band asked for help with some sound equipment. Will work out the details with Principal Osborn. Budget Staffing Salary Schedules Budget - Staffing and salary schedules were proposed by Superintendent Haslem. Staffing proposal approved and it appears that a 2 12 F.T.E. reduction will have to be made. Finances and proposals were reviewed. Possible that with an increase in funding from the state we could fund a package of approximately 3 percent. Will firm up by next meeting. Probationary employees status reviewed. Will remove from probation upon proof of completion of agreed to items. It was moved by Katl I. Truman that a request for a Magic Show fund raiser from Milford High School and Milford Elementary be approved. The motion was seconded by Wayne W, Wiseman and unanimously passed. Beaver High School To Compete In Pepsi Cash Cap Challenge Beaver High School Journalism will be one of many schools across the state to participate in the Pepsi Cash Cap Challenge, a fund raiser for Utah Schools. The program which runs from February 1 through May 1, allows Beaver High School Journalism students to raise money for the school by turning in Pepsi bottle caps for five cents each. AH funds generated during the Pepsi Cash Cap School Challenge are to be used at the discretion of each school staff. Beaver High School Journalism chose a new computer as the goal for the fund raiser. According to Sandra Mast, the computer is needed to update the school paper. Beaver High School has already raised $15.00 with the addition of a bonus of 500 caps. Pepsi will also match the first 500 caps Beaver High School raises. A grand prize of 5,000 caps and a new video recorder will be given to schools who raise the most caps per three-mont- h student. Sandra Mast urges every student to bring in Pepsi bottle caps from r bottles and throughout the May 1 deadline.
