The ten teams are from Beaver, Wayne, Gunnison, North Sevier, Piute, Kanab, Enterprise, Parowan, Milford, and Panguitch. There will be 12 wrestlers on each team, one for each weight category. The first competition will begin Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the Pigtail competition and will continue Friday and Saturday until by a process of elimination the top four places are determined and these will go to the State competition. We welcome all these eager matmen to Beaver, as well as their coaches, families and fans. We wish program in Auditorium to celebrate the City's 129th birthday. It will be on Wednesday, February 6th starting at 7 p.m. date the birth of our also who were will City, this program honor all Senior Citizens born before the turn of the century. program will feature a slide presentation of Old Time Beaver and some of it's residents and will be presented by Dell Hollingshead. Happy 129th The Tino Gallegos Succumbs in Birthday , Beaver City. at the Surphurdale Mushroom Farm are being finished as rapidly as possible. The picture was taken inside the structure consisting of 16 greenhouses joined by a covered work area. Roof and sides are complete and a concrete floor is being poured. Work is on schedule for a February startup of the facility. GREENHOUSES BPW to select "Woman of the Year" Attention! Members of the Business and Professional Womens Club and the Public! The BPW will announce its choice for "Woman of the Year" at their February 12 meeting which will be held at the Belknap School starting at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend this most interesting meeting. "Woman of the Year" is a most highly prized award and the recipient for this year will City Council Minutes The Beaver City Council met January 15, 1985 at 4 p.m. with all members present except Councilman Karl Miller. Minutes of the January 2, 1985 meeting were read and approved. National Guard Policy A motion was made and passed that the Beaver City's Personnel Policy be amended to read "Any employee in the Utah National Guard shall be entitled to attend the summer guard encampment. This encampment shall be an approved leave of absence without pay. Any additional military work k over, the encampment shall be deducted from vacation time." Community Block Grant Meeting Councilman Messinger will represent Beaver City at the January 17, 1985 public hearing on Community Block Grant Funds. two-wee- k two-wee- Orcal TV letter from Mayor Christiansen to Orcal and Orcal's response in reference to lock boxes and programming were read. A copy of each will be sent to the Chamber of Commerce. Walker Application Mayor Christiansen read a letter from Jordan R. Walker regarding his application for rights on the Beaver River. Shop Equipment City Manager Baker reported that the shop equipment as authorized in the last City Council meeting has either been ordered or has arrived. Carter Property A motion was made and passed to contact Arlene B. Carter of Henderson, Nevada and offer her the appraisal price for a 32 ft. x 99 ft. strip of her property. The appraisal was made by Hal Smith, appraiser for Rockin' O Realty. A Bills Bills for the first half of January, 1985 were approved for payment. Hospital Bonds Mr. tarry Denham of Prudential-Bachmet with the City Council and presented documentation for the sale of $700,000 in Beaver City General Obligation Hospital Bonds. After review of the bond resolution, the City Council recessed until 7:30 p.m. Upon reconvening, a motion was made and passed authorizing the sale of $700,000 in Beaver City General Obligation Bonds. Water Revenue Bonds A motion was made and passed that the bond resolution for the sale of $87,500 in water revenue bonds be e, powder on top. He died of cancer. Mr. Gallegos was an elder in the Jehovah's Witness Church in Beaver for several years. He is survived by his wife, Kaye McShane She is the Gallegos. daughter of the late Clint and Golda McShane of Beaver. Her aunt is Bernice Allgood of Beaver. and frequent Reduction acreage reduction programs. According to Franklin Keith Dalton, County Executive Director, the acreage reduction programs are necessary to control excess crop supplies and maintain a better balance between supply and demand. "All farmers with an established acreage base are eligible to participate in the voluntary programs." For participating in the 1985 programs, farmers will be eligible to receive deficiency payments and price support loans. Additionally, the wheat program offers land diversion payment. Projected deficiency payments are 47 cents per bushel for corn, 46 cents for sorghum, 44 cents for barley, and $1.08 for wheat. A land diversion payment of $2.70 per bushel has been established for wheat. This payment compensates farmers for taking land out of production in addition to the acreage reduction requirement. "Advance payments equal to f of the projected deficiency f of the payment rate and land diversion payment rate will be offered to farmers during the sign-u' period." A 10 percent acreage reduction requirement is in effect for 1985 feed grains. The wheat program contains 20 percent acreage reduction and 10 percent paid land diversion requirement. The 1985 programs include target prices of $3.03 per bushel for corn, $2.88 for sorghum, $2.60 for barley, $1.60 for oats, and $4.38 per bushel for wheat. "By participating in these programs, farmers will again help to maintain reasonable levels of carryover stocks and strengthen farm prices. The ASCS official said only those farmers who take part will be eligible for program benefits." Rural Youth Electric Seminar Miss Susan Roberts and Miss Sharon Marshall reported on their attendance at the Rural Youth Electric Seminar. They were thanked for representing Beaver City. Mayor Christiansen will contact various civic clubs to see if financing can be obtained to send Miss Roberts to the National Seminar. Repair Bids City Manager Baker presented bids for repair of Beaver City's intake structure and of the Beaver River. This work would go toward completing Disaster Survey Report 077831. The following sealed bids were opened: Ned Rowland Yardley-$8,00and Riley Ruesch Excavation-$5,000- ; Construction-$7,420- . After review of the bids, a motion was made and passed that Beaver City accept the low bid of Ned Ruesch Excavation in the amount of $5,000 if work can be completed by April 1, 1985.. Property West of City Hall After discussion, a motion was made and carried to write a letter to the owner of the property west of City Hall stating that the property is a nuisance and that Beaver City is contemplating condemnation and removal of the structures on the property. Bradshaws Are Miss Beauty Young Farmer Rancher Winners Pageant Requests are ed the for now being accept1985 Utah All American which will be held c 8, at the Hotel in Salt Lake City. This is the official preliminary to the National Miss Pageant Saturday, June All will Robin and Carrie Bradshaw, Beaver County's Young Farmer Rancher Winners of 1984, were chosen first runners up at the State contest held last November. The announcement came at the Utah Farm Bureau's Annual Convention in Salt Lake City at the Marriott Hotel. Robin and Carrie were in competition with 31 other couples from all over the state of Utah. As winners of this prestigious award, they received $100 and a plaque. Robin and Carrie own and operate a dairy here in Beaver. Robin utilizes a computer for his business and puts "just about anything and everything on it." They have four children, Macie 8, Brady 6, Amy Jo 4, and Tri-Ar- American Miss Pageant which in be held in August 15-1- 7 Southern California. Contestants must be between the ages of three and fourteen: Tiny Petite Miss, ages Miss, ages Junior Young Miss, ages and Boys, ages Miss, ages They will be judged on judges' 5-- 0; 4-- interviews, sportswear, party dress for girls and formal wear for boys. Trophies will be awarded in the following categories in each division: Most Photogenic, Best Personality, and Best Party Best Sportswear, or Dress Formal Wear. All contestants will appear on stage and receive ' Robbie 2. Robin is past president of Beaver County Farm Bureau and is currently a participant's trophy. All entrants will have a full day of pageant events, and their mothers or guardians will be invited to spend the entire day with them. The public is invited to attend the pageant at 3 serving as membership chairman. Robin and Carrie were instrumental in getting the Talent Find Program started at the Beaver County Fair a few years ago. Prizes may be seen in the Sears window until the time of the auction. Birch Lake Road Gate Proposed A proposal is being made to place a gate on the road between Lower Kents Lake and Birch Lake. This action is being considered by the U. S. Forest service and private landowners to protect soil and vegetative resources. These resources and pipeline are experiencdrive ing damage caused by vehicle use. Vehicle access would be allowed for administrative use. Access to the general public would be allowed by foot, horseback, trailbikes and snowmobiles. Contact the Beaver Ranger District office, 190 North 100 East, P.O. Box E, Beaver.
