Maunce Thompson's overseas address. Cpl. Thompson called his mother from New York last Saturday, saying he had at last got a break and was glad for a chance to get more action. He has been with the Medical Corps at Clinton, Ohio. Pvt. 'Is NEWS FROM OUR BOYS IN SERVICE Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilson have recently returned to their home in Ogden, after spending- a few days in California, visiting with their son, T, Sgt. Virgil Wilson, who was in San Francisco on a short leave from the South as Pacific. Sgt. Wilson is a doctor's assistant in the Medical Corps. While in California they also visited another son, Harold and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson also have two other sons in the service. Harry LJoyd Wilson is working as a Sea Bee in the Hawaiian Islands. LJoyd has been in the Islands for two years and says Tremonton would really look good to him. He reports looking forward to the Tremonton paper with gTeat insei-vin- terest. A third son, Pfc. Raymond K. Wilson, is also with the Medical Corps, in Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mortensen, of Elwood, have had word from their son, S. F. 3c Foy Mortensen, from somewhere in the Pacific. He has been in action, but Is well and says, "Don't worry, I'm all right." Vern has enjoyed his training so far, but is glad to be home for a furlough. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Grover, of Penrose, have received word that their son, Lt. Scott Grover, has arrived safely somewhere in England. Their son, Jesse, is also in England. They are both looking forward to a possible meeting in the near future. Mrs. Ferry Stanfill of Penrose, received a phone call, Wednesday morning from her son, John L. Stanfill who is stationed at Williams Field, Arizona, telling her that he had just been made a Second Lieutenant and an instructor for a year. Pvt. Melvin Grover has been transferred back to Fort Douglas, where he is now in charge of new recruits. Pfc. Dale Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Miller of East Garland, who is a student of foreign language at Yale University, recently had a pleasant visit with his friends in Virginia over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. John Barfuss had a letter from their son, Lyle this week from New Guinea, telling of his attendance at an L. D. S. service located about 25 miles from his camp. Lyle is fortunate enough to be with his friend Harvey Peterson of Penrose and other members of his original company, and there were one hundred L. D. S. service men who attended that Sunday service. Pictures were taken outside the meeting place and it was sent to the Era for publication. Cannon has writn ten his sister, Mrs. Russell that he is safe after taking part in the battle of the Marshalls. The public is invited. 8 Mrs. Burton Anderson of Bear River City and Mrs. Carl Staples of Promontory, have recently returned from a two weeks visit with their brother and son Elvis and family of Hollywood, California, and also with friends at Canoga Park, Calif. 1. Pvt. Max Laub who has been stationed at Camp Earkley, Texas, has been transferred to Camp Reynolds in Pennsylvania and he reports that his future plans are not definitely known, but there are plenty of minors on the subject. Reese R. Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. W, A. Allen was home on a four day leave last week. He recently graduated with high honors from the Miami University as Seaman 1st class. He was then appointed to officers training and has now gone to Columbus, Ohio, to take up this V12 work. Reese entered the service last August and has taken training at Oxford, Ohio, and at Miami. He' was made honor man over his battalion because of his high rank at the University. Pvt Jack Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Anderson of this city has received his B. A. degree from the Colorado College at Colorado Springs, Mrs. Anderson made the trip to attend the commencement exercises which were held in the beautiful Shove Memorial Chapel in that city. Following his graduation, Pvt. Anderson left for Paris Island, South Carolina, where he will continue training. His wife, the former Miss Verna Meyer of Smithfield returned home with Jack's mother, after spending the past two months in Colorado Springs. Stanley P. Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Anderson was one of the graduating class at the Hondo army air field at Hondo, Texas last week. Stanley received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant and proudly received his silver navigator wings during the commencement exercises. g The impressive ceremony signified to the new navigators that they are now ready to do their part in fighting the enemy. Charles LaMar Janson has recently advanced to the rank of a Corporal in Xte Marine Aviation Detachment and is now stationed at the University of Pennsylvania. While there he will get flight preparatory training. Upon successful completion of this rigorous pilot training he will be awarded a commission in the Marine Air Corps. He writes saying "I wish to say hello to everyone in Bear River Valley, as I shall always remember it as my home. Marvin C, Barfuss', BMlc, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barfuss returned to duty in Maryland after spending a good share of his 30 day leave in the valley visiting with friends and relatives. Marvin has been in the navy nearly six years, and this is his first leave in about 4 years. He just recently arrived in this country from the Southwest Pacific battle area. He reports that he has been in seven major battles and "a million minor ones." However, he says not to go to the records to find those million. Word has been received rrom Sgt. Larue. T. Whitaker that he has returned to duty again on New Guinea, after having spent some time at a hospital with one of the jungle fevers. However, he has re- covered nicely and Is back on the job.
