Show BEAR RIVER VALLEY LEADER, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1929. Weekly Grain Market Review Grain markets turned decidedly weak durnig the week ending October Slow European inquiry for North 19 American wheat was principally responsible fo rsharp decline in domestic wheat prices to the lowest point since early in July, according to the weeklyS. gran imarket review of the U. Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Rye and feed grains were lower with wheat but prospective early marketings of new corn and shortage of elevator space for storing this grain were additional weakening factors in the corn market. Flax was rather unsettled but there wa sa good cash demand for the light domestic offerings. Continued heavy Argentine shipments averaging around five million bushels weekly together with large offerings of native wheats, have been nearly sufficinet to supply current European needs and have restricted the demand for North American wheat with the result that stocks in the U. S. and Canada markets have accumulated to nearly 395 million bushels, the largest amount on record, and about 125 million bushels over the amount in store in North ' American markets a year ago. These had little prospect of an immediate increase in export inquiry, and a rather slow domestic flour demand are principally responsible for the present downward trend in wheat prices. Danuban countries are offering wheat more freely than in recent years. Rumania is shipping wheat in good amounts, while Czechoslovakia is exporting wheat on drawback certificates and Yugoslavia is offering freely in European markets, in competition with exports from Argentina. Reports of conditions in the southern hemisphere are conflicting but crop conditions in Argentina have been improved recently showers and prospects are more favorable .except in the northern part of the provinces of Cordoba and Santa Fe where serious damage has occurred, according to trade reports. Estimates of the outturn this season vary greatly but based on what eppears to be conservative trade estimates it now seems probable that the export surplus in Argentina and Australia for the coming seasan may be 75 to 100 million bushels befow shipments for the current season, which have been much larger than were estimated at the beginning of the crop year. Wheat: Domestic cash wheat markets generally followed the decline in futures at the close of the market, October 18 were 4 to 5 c lower than a week ago. Demand fo rhard winter wheat was limited principally to local mills. Some export sales were re ported but there consisted mostly of distressed shipments afloat or which had arrived in European markets and were generally at discounts, under replacement values. Receipts at principal markets were or only moderate volume and were only slightly in excess of shipments, so that market stocks increased more slowly than earlied in the season. Over 200 million bushels of wheat, however, are now in store in the domestic markets; No. 2 hard winter wheat, ordinary protein, was quoted at Kansas City, 12 October 18 at 2 and 13 $1.22- protein Around $1.24 per bushel. 50,000 bushels No. 2 hard winter were reported sold at Omaha for shipment toward the close of the week at 14c under the Chicago December price, which counld be equivilent to around $1.15 per bushel; No. 2 hard winter 11 protein was quoted in that market at $1.17. Receipts of hard winter was quoted in that market at $1.24 $1.24 per bushel. Soft winter wheat markets were also weak and prices declined about the same as other classes of wheat. Mill buying was fairly active at St. Louis and 100,000 bushels of soft win ter wheat were reported sold from elevator stocks during the week; No. 2 $1.18-$1.2- 0, $1.20-$1.2- Hallowe'en Spooks Said To Have Hearty Appetite By Prudivc Goodhue ghosts like to HALLOWE'EN are peculiar in other respects. So If you are planning a little spook party for All Souls Sire my suggestion Is to set a bountiful table If yon wish to attract a merry crowd of ghosts, goblins, witches, black cats, and what hare you. Hallowrea would be a sorry failure without cider and pumpkin pie Is equally essential. Have your tubs for apple ducking, your sheet wrapped guests, and phosphorescent skeletons but be sure to provide the heartening presence of cider. It's surprising how warming good old apple cider can be after a few cold chills. If you see a ghost, be nonchalant, sip a cider.
