Show Sentinel MlPVALE k ic South Salt Lake County' Own Weekly Newspaper Covering -- rdaY Every Residents of South Jordan, the only town in the Salt Lake county area which did not have an election in November, are still pressing the town board for a special balloting for town offices. The town board made no preat elecparations &for balloting removal ordered the tion time of election notices several days before the election was to have been held. This was done because opposition candidates failed to file with the town recorder in time to meet the legal deadline. During recent weeks, a group of South Jordan citizens, headed by Henry Holt, have petitioned the county attorney & the state attorney general for a ruling on the legality of a special election. Neither of those officers save a decision in the case, Mr Holt said. Mr Holt said Tuesday evening that the group would consult the county atorney this week on the procedure for filing a petition for an election with the third district court. He added that the group means to have an election if it Is legally possible. Ruf us Ray Blaze Threatens House of A four room frame house belonging to Russel Johnson, Drawas slightly per contractor, damaged by a fire Tuesday morning of last week. The blaze was reportedly caused when a stove pipe projected through one of the win dows of the house, overheated. Mr Johnson had reportedly left a coal fire burning Jn the stove while on a business trip to southern Utah. Some mine workers who were passing the house spotted the blaze & notified the Draper fire department who checked the before any real damage was done. Mid Flora Chief Members of the Mid Flora club of Midvale elected officers for the coming year at a meeting held Friday of last week at Midvale city hall. Rufus Ray was reelected president of the club. Other new officers include Mrs Charles H Cary, first vice president, Mary Hyke, second vice president, Carl Arnoldous, recorder, secretary & treasurer, Reed Johnson, corresponding secretary, A C Jensen, historian & librarian, Mrs Hyte Reed Mackey, parliamentarian, memR Johnson, two year board ber, George W Olson, one year board member & George W Strom, holdover board member. Sandy Legion Post, Auxiliary Plan For Holiday Fair' Sandy post 77 of the American Legion & the post auxiliary will sponsor a "Holiday Fair" Friday evening, Dec 9, at the Sandy recreation hall, beginning at 7:30 p m. Toys which the legionaries have been making & novelties & aprons made by members of the auxiliary as well as apples & sacks of potatoes will be sold at concession booths of , the "midway." Features of the "fair" will include a snack booth, a visit from Santa Claus who will bring gifts for the children & a drawing for a turkey. The fair will also feature an amatuer talent contest for pupils in the Sandy elementary & junior high schools with prizes for the winners. The program will be under the direction of Charles Wright, Richard Setterberg & Don Poison. The Utah Symphony orchestra scored a tremenduous triumph in the opening concert of the season at the Salt Lake Tabernacle Wednesday. Last year's orchestra was rated at the best in the history of the state but tha new orchestra is even better according to the critics. Utah is headed for its greatest symphony's season. The rendition of Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony" & Rimsky Korsa koff's "Scheherazade" was inspi rational & Conductor Maurice Abravanel received a rousing ovation. There is no doubt about the ability, of this great director. He is bringing the finest in music for the entire state to enjoy. The second concert is an ambitious undertaking & a real treat for all music fans. Dec 910 Verdi's Requiem will be staged at Kingsbury Hall at the University of Utah. The program is scheduled for two nights.
