Private citizens and government officials debate the MX proposal for the desert regions of Utah and Nevada. ... ... Live two-ho- ur , , ft 24th THURSDAY-APR- IL ad made possible in You are undoubtably tired of hasselixig MX. Instead of going on and on, let's take a concise look at MX. It is the third part of a completely necessary defense trail. You've heard all the reasons why many times. Nevada and Utah have the only feasible, extensive land area which meets all the necessary basic criteria. If Congress and the President want it here, they'll put it here. If you believe the MX scoping teams and your Congress man when they tell you basing MX here does not make Utah a first strike primary target you are as naive as President Carter. I don't believe a solid decision will come before November's presidential election. Congress cannot afford, politically, at this time to permit such a massive allocation of funds for defense. Let's say a government decision is made to build MX and to base it here. The two most logical base stations are very near Delta and Milford. The Milford area is the most suitable. Let's not sit on our collective backsides and let Salt Lake City and Northern Utah plan our action and needs for us. Lets tell the air force and the Governor and the President that if MX is going to be here, how we are going to allow it to be here. Look at this situation in a cold, hard, practical light. No one's going to rape your daughters or steal your personal belongings, but they can and will steal your water, your privacy and your minerals and they will rape and plunder your rights to use the land. Let's decide what fair demands are. Let's make them in calm direct written proposals now. It's possible to demand restitution for the harm done by nuclear fall out even though money can't replace what's been lost. It's entirely possible, after the fact, demands concerning the MX might be completely impossible to enforce. Let's make our demands now. Let's not even wait for the final decision. By that time it will be too late to accomplish our goals and aims where MX is concerned. If you are at all concerned now is the time to speak up. Silence can lean two ways. Annihilation or control by the Soviets because we let our emotions prevent MX from being built or the government using Utah as it has in the past without Utah realizing any long range benefits at all. , When you cpme into this world you aren't given any guarantee of the time you will be allowed. You never know when your time to die will come or how it will come. You have no control over it. Don't rely on self named experts. Don't be as emotional and frantic about MX as one wealthy gentleman was about mass production of the automobile for common use years ago. After spending large amounts of time and money to try to make production of the automobile illegal he was kicked in the head by one of his carriage horses and killed. The automobile is dangerous and the MX is also dangerous and you could be run over and killed by an automobile while on the street tomorrow. Let's stop being afraid to take responsible steps to insure our national freedom. pm KUEDp, 6--8 This .. pad ry a grant (torn the Corporation lor EvaCarline Jones Slick Beaver First Ward Sacrament Meeting was held Sunday, April 20, 1980 at 3 p.m. Eva Carline Jones Slick, 88 of Provo, died April 16, 1980, in Elko, Nev.
