Horsi Sterr, a PhD candidate at the University of Colorado, who has been doing field research around Beaver since last August, ' showed the guests some of the prominent fault scarps north of town and led them to several exposed soil profiles. In order to understand the tectonic and history of a fault it is essential to study the characteristics and development of the soil which overlies the fault and is cut by it. The best location for studving both the surrounding soil and the fault directly is in a trench that cuts through a fault scarp. The only such trench in Beaver is available on the property of J. R. Ready Mix, Inc. just north of the Beaver cemetery. While the visiting geologists were carrying out some tests at this site, Mr. Ben Robinson, senior owner and manager of the plant, volunteered to have this trench somewhat enlarged and deepened so that the fault itself could be fully exposed. Thanks to the extraordinary kindness and cooperation of the Ready Mix management the study could be carried out with much grea'er accuracy and success. In the name of the whole group of geologists Horst Sterr expresses his deep appreciation of the instant help which Mr. Robinson and his employee provided last Wednesday; thanks are extended also to a number of other Beaver residents who have shown great cooperation and sympathy with Horst's work during the past four months. state pro- gram, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kay Taylor. Tetanus spores were most likely introduced through scratches obtained while fertilizing rose bushes in the woman's garden. Clostridium tetani, the tetanus bacillus, is a common organism in soil and the intestinal tracts of animals, especially horses. Disease is caused by a toxin produced as the bacteria grows anaerobically at the site of an injury. Protection is provided by active immunization with tetanus toxid.
