Show Universal Microfilm Corp. Ill Picrpont Ave. SLC, Utah 84101 PRE5S TIME By George Date A couple of weeks ago we Jan Jan ran a letter from Congressman Burton explaning our position in Viet Nam and the following week we ran a letter from "An American" in which he tried to answer my are we question of "what-fo- r there and what do we hope VOLUME to gain by being there. Both those letter were followed by editor's notes and last Satur day I received a letter from John Homer in Cedar City With comments on my Ed. notes. Here, in part, is what John has to say: "I find myself in the pecu liar position of agreeing with both you and with Congressman Burton, however, I'm a sucker for the flag. Wave it and I'm at attention. Put a brass band with it and I'm to Russia ready to march China or Viet Nam. I believe in America and the American Dream or ideal of freedom I think we are right to be in Viet Nam. uui, with you, I think we have a right to know why we are there and what our aims are. What do we 'hope' to gain? Is it possible? Nowhere and at No time in history be fore Korea have we ever gone to war without the determin ation to win. Now we (our government) seem to have the determination not to win, presumably, because this might make enemies of the Chinese. Never, before Korea, has an American Commander been given a war to fight without also giving him the tools to do the job. At least he was given the best that the folks back home could provide. Now our government tells the commander in the field, 'You may bloody his nose, but don't, oh for heaven sakes, 20 BEAVER, UTAH 84713, THURSDAY, JANUARY 27, 1966 Stake Conference Saturdayat & Sun. General Sessions Sun. 10 & 2 In Second Ward Chapel Compliments For Beaver High Boys A very nice compliment was extended to the boys of Beaver High by some tourists who happened to get into Beaver at lunch time for the high school. They noticed the students on the street and while they were eating at the Elite Cafe, quite a number of boys came in. When the travelers were paying their check they commented on how pleased they were to see some "real" boys again. The ones they had seen in Beaver were dressed neatly and were clean, with their hair cut and didn't leave you in doubt as to whether they were boys or girls. They said if you could judge Beaver by its young folks, it must' be a very nice town in which to live. Boys, you Congratulations made a good impression and won some new friends for the town. The Beavers were colder than an iceberg last Friday night on their home floor as the Delta Rabbits slipped by them 51 to 40. For Delta it was the consis-tashooting of Dee Stoddard with 20 points which kept them ahead of the Beavers. The Beavers tied the game up 38 to 38 only to have Delta go back into the lead on four straight foul pitches. Beaver shot 26 per cent from the field to Delta's 47 per cent. Roger Murdock and Gil Limb each tallied 9 points, with Sherm Swindlehurst getting 8, to lead the Beavers. This week the Beavers travel to Parowan for their Fr day night game. nt Leading officials of The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterBeaver To Celebrate -day Saints will attend the Beaver Stake Quarterly Con110th Birthday ; : ference Saturday and Sunday, Beaver 110 years be will 29 30 in and Beaver.
