From the Files of the Beaver Press June in Beaver County $3.00 a Year Single Copy 10c 9, 1922 Appropriation For Puffer Lake Road County Commissioner H. D. Thompson has been advised by the Forest Officials that the appropriation of $10,- 000 for the Beaver - Puffer Lake Road will be available July 1st. There is also available $100 to be spent in the High Hunt Trail and $800 on the Tushar Ranger Station South Creek Trail. This will be spent this summer and fall on these roads. There will also be a primary trail built running north and south. This trail is to be eight feet wide with a grade not to exceed 7 Secondary trails five to six ft. wide with the best grade possible will also be bulit. Mr. Thompson in a personal interview with a Press reporter said that the Forest Officials expect to arrive here soon to go over the Puffer Lake and other roads and Trails and to outline the work to be done this summer. When the proposed work is all complete it will give Beaver County some of the best mountain roads in the state. A force of men are now at work cleaning up the road for the summer traffic. Judging of exhibits will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 19th. Judging of the demonstration contests, Style Dress Review and Meal Preparation will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 20. The public is Invited to attend view the exhib on Thursday-anclub clothing memits. All bers will model their dresses at a Style Dress Review to be held on Tuesday, August 18th at 8 p.m. in the Beklnap School. Everyone is invited to attend this event. First-Thir- d d 4-- H or arrange beforehand with Mr. Gillies, caterer at the Lake for reservations. An Invitation Is extended to all the people and the towns of the County, to all the officials of the Union Pacific Railway, State The final work In, preparation for this years Brraver Valley Round-Uis being done at the Rodeo Grounds. This year the Round-Uwill be sponsored by p p Foch Parkinson's Eutah (Utah) Trail Rodeo Company and will be presented this Friday and Saturday evenings, Aug. 14 and 15, at the Rodo Grounds North of Beaver. Starting time if 8:00 p.m. each evening. As an added attraction this year there will be a drawing for a Shetalnd Poney on Saturday, the 15th. Tickets for the drawing are $1 (donation). Events such as this Rodeo and the race meet are the things that make the difference in a lown such as ours. Let's all support this Rodeo and help to build it into a successul annual event. 4-- H Beaver Lions Enjoy Canyon Party County, Church, Schools and to all other residents of the county or not who can possibly arrange to be present. V' On Tuesday, August 18th, the Beaver County Clothing Clubs will present a Style Review for the enjoyment of all those who wish to attend. All members of Clothing Clubs from 1st year on up have been invited to participate and show the public what they have mad? in this year. The theme of the Style Review will be the "World's Fair" and it will be held at the Belknap Grade School In Beaver starting at 8:00 p.m. Be sure and attend. Advertisement s, Linda Maxlrie Stewart, Leslie Marshall, Dranna Walker, Judy Nsruse and Elaine Schow. 4-- H The Beaver Lions Club canyon party at P'onderosa Park on Saturday, August 8 was a most enjoyable affair. The steaks, cooked to perfection on two large grills were enjoyed by the crowd and were mute testimony to the culinary artistry of cooks, Sumner Mur-docDan Martin, Dick Davis and Ray Morris, Lions entertainment committee members. A most attractive buffet of snacks was arranged by their wives who also helped serve the baked potatoes and salad that accompanied the steaks. Watermelon and cantaloup topped off the menu. k, This annual affair is a sort of bonus for the hard work done by club members in preparing for and running the race meet. New officers for the club were present and various awards were made to several members. , Style Review 4-- 4-- Bo-bert- Explorer Scouts Enjoy Pack Trip Into Canyon The Beaver Second Ward Explorer Scouts and their leaders, David Reynolds and Rex Carter left for a horse-bac- k trip on Monday of this week. They went by way of the South Fork of North Creek and plan to stay 8t Big Johns Flat the first night where Dee Ritchie and Hal Lund planned to Join them. The second day they were going to Big Flat where they plan to spend their second night and then home again. Looks like rain, hope they don't get wet. Beaver BPW Enjoys Tour Of Forest The tour included: 1. Visit South Creek n Management and Rain-Tra- p Installation Areas. 2. Visit New recreation area at Anderson Meadow. 3. Visit East Fork Timber sale! 4. Visit the Betenson Flat job. 5. Betenson Flat Spruce Plantation. 6. Timid Springs timber sale. 7. Timid Springs e study area enclosure. 8. Lake Stream Watershed pro ject. 9. Timid Springs recreation area. ' Twenty two members of the BPW had the pleasure of making the tour. They left Beaver at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning in to government carry-all- s and a pick up. Ranger Dee Ritchie, J. D. Osborne and Donna Morris driving the cars. It was one of the most interesting and Informative tours we have had the pleasure of taking. Pearl Thompson, Vay Madsen, Lenor Swindlehurst and Blanche Wood had their cameras and took some very interesting and amusing pictures. Each member furnished their own lunch at noon, the evening Sod-rippi- game-wildlif- A very large crowd attended the funeral services for young Merrill Lee Gillies last Friday August 7, 1964 at the Beaver Second Ward Chapel at 2 p.m. Lee was just 25 years old and the father of two small children He was kiled in an automobile accident near Panguitch on Tues day. The services were conducted by Bishop's Concilor Rex Carter. The prayer at the home was by Grant Esplin. Prelude and postlude music was played by Mrs. Clara Carter who also accompanied the singing Opening prayer was by David Reynolds. A male quartet, Hal Lund, Gordon Baker, Gilbert Gale and Sherman Carter sang, "Let the Lower Lights Be Burning." Speaker, Mel Heslington. Vocal Solo by Clifford Williams, "My Heavenly Father." Remarks, Wells Farrer. Vocal Duet, by Hal and Nell Smith, "In The Garden". Closing prayer, Alick Excell, dedication of the grave, Bishop Paul Nielson. Pall bearers: Clark Johnson Mel Glaizer, Sterling Griffiths, Fred Hooper, Norman Crosby and Mark Jones. Flowers were cared for by relatives and. friends of Betty and Lee. Lee was a graduate of Beaver High School and was loved by everyone who knew him because of his spontaneous jovial disposition. He worked in a service station with his brother, Scrib, and it was a pleasure to have him serve you he was so happy and cordial at all times OF THANKS CARD - . On account of the celebration of Pioneer Day in Beaver on Monday, the 24th, which will necessitate the appearance of the Beaver City Band here, the Milford Band will be secured by the Milford delegation for service at the Lake. Athletic contests, rowing, swimming, and track & field meets, tug of war between the various towns, etc., will be among the ammusements featured for the 24th. Karl S. Carlton was elected master of ceremonies for the occasion. Monster camp fires will be built and a noted Salt Lake orator and others, possibly Governor Maybe, will be present to participate In the festivities. Stories of Pioneer days, Community singng, male quartets, mixed quartets, dancing on the green etc., will be a part of each evenings program. A transportation Committee was selected, consisting of N. B. Neilson, chairman; John Bowman and Timothy Brownhill. Transportation will be provided for those not having cars of their own and at as low a rate as possible,$3.50 for a round trip. For reservations, rates, and etc. call either of the garages or the Press Office. Everyone is requested to take a lunch and bedding if they expect to stay . , Hinton (Democrat) opportunity to establish their camps and enjoy a week-en- d rest as well as the formal open- The CounSAFETY FIRST ty Commissioners at the request of the Chamber of Commerce and numerous citizens of Milford and other parts of Beaver County, have, in order to make the road as safe as possible for travel, decided to place a control on the Puffer Lake Road on Pioneer Day. Hence, on Monday. July 24, no vehicles of any kind will be permitted to travel west on the Pufer Lake Road between the mouth of the canyon and Puffer Lake between the hours of 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.; and no vehicles of any kind will be permitted to travel east on said road between the hours of 1 pm. and 8 p.m. on said day on said road. All citizens are, in order to assure safety for all. asked to observe rules and regulations for that day. i Cottrell (Republican) A committee consisting of Messrs. Des Hickman, L. R. Fournier and Karl S. Carlton of Milford met Tuesday night with Commissioner Thompson and the Executive Committee of the Beaver City Chamber of Commerce relative to the formal opening and dedication of the Puffer Lake Road. In abesnce Mr. of President P. Barton, Thompson was elected Chairman of the meeting. After considerable discussion it was decided to celebrate the opening of the road on Pioneer's Day, Monday, July 24. After dinner Dee gave a fine summary of the days activities. We drove back across Big Flat to see the deer herd. Everyone remarked what a wonderful tour and pleasant day it had been.
