Show Universal Microfilm Corp. 1441 PB0 sub-hea- five-coun- ty 20-ye- ar The article goes on to say how and who did the work of devising the basic plan and how much they were helped by their people in Washington, D.C. The reason I have reprinted this portion of the article is to show that SBA funds are available to communities such as ours to help them build industry. ' One thing that is not mentioned in the article but which I found by discussing the problem wth my friend was that they have been working on this project for three years and that their loan was the culmination of that three years work. Here in Beaver, we have been working on our clothing factory project for almost a year, most of which time was spent trying to organize a corporation which the state law made valueless after we had formed. Had we known a year ago that we would have to form a nonprofit corporation in order to work for industrial development in this state, we would have done so and by so doing have probably been in position to have averted the closing of our plant. I can't say for sure that we could have averted its closing, but at least we would have been in a much better position that we are. A lot of people are screaming for action and want heaven and earth moved because they are owed some money and they need it. Alright, you are owed money and you should have been paid. That is granted. You're not alone. The problem, at least as I see it is not one of whom should be paid but rather to work toward a solution whereby everyone who is owed will be paid and we will keep this plant here and get it functioning again' on a permanent basis so that everyone here in this city and this area is a lot better off. This is being written on Monday afternoon and already I have received two phone calls and three visits from people who have been aproached by the rumor mill and who wanted to know the straight of what is going on. They had heard that the plant was being dismantled snd that it was being moved or that the equipment is being removed and all sorts of such talk which has no basis in fact. Now, just for the heck of it, let's take a squint at some facts. Fact No. 1: An SBA application has been made. In that application every piece of equipment belonging to the Beaver Manufacturing Co. was listed by name, type and serial number. All of that equipment must be on the premises in order for the SBA to check it. It cannot be removed. Fact No. 2: About this business of let's all get together and make a run on the outfit and be sure we get our money first. HAVZ AT IT! ! ! But while you are at it I suggest you take a Ave. , j trOGOU That beautiful cut of "Press Time" was given to me by Mr. Norm Fullenbach of the Richfield Reaper. I don't know how come he was to do such a kind and generous act but Dorothy and I appreciate his thoughtfulness and the next time we see those fine people I will give his wife a big smooch. It will be sufficient for Dorothy to say. "Thank you kindly, Norm." In line with our present problem of obtaining money to operate the clothing plant, a friend of mine who lives in Gooding, Idaho was down here to visit a short time back and he told me of their efforts to obtain money to build a meat packing plant in that area. The following story is from The Gooding Leader of May 28, 1964, under the heading of SBA Approves Stockmen's Meat Co. d Loan; with the for $570,000 Made Available Building and Equipping Modern Killing Plant Here Congressman Ralph Harding (Idannounced at a aho) dinner held in Gooding Saturday evening in his honor that the Small Business Administration had approved loans totalling $570,000 to Stockmen's Meat Packing Corp. and Gooding Industrial Development Co. $350,000 of the loan, along with $100,000 provided by Stockmen's Meat Packing Corp. will be used by Gooding Industrial Development Co to erect a modern livestock killing plant four miles east of Gooding, on a site provided by contributions by residents of the Gooding area. Gooding Industrial Development Co. will lease the plant to Stockmen's Meat Packing Corp. over a period of 20 years on a lease-- , purchase arrangement. The loan will be paid back to the Small over Business Administration the period. Picrpont short walk to the courthouse and take one short squint at a tax judgement that is already on file. All your added judgements will do is to speed the time when an action called bankruptcy is going to have to. be taken and lessen the chance that we can do the job we all want which is to pay all of the outstanding bills and get that plant operating on a permanent basis. Rather than run in circles and get nothing done, let's take it a little bit easy and get what we want done and get it done right. I assume that most of the people of this area want that plant. I can't speak for everyone but I have talked to a lot of people and haven't met one yet wh0 was willing to tell me he or she wanted to get rid of the plant. Working on that assumption we have formed a it corporation and are making every effort possible to bring in an SBA loan to supply the money which is needed to make tbip plant go. Not for a few days or a month but for from now on. Now, it may be that we will be unable to get such a loan and that we will indeed lose this plant and that those of us who are owed money will be unable to be fully paid. That is a chance we are faced with and which we must take. By forcing the issue we merely reduce the chances we have of having the time to work it out so we can get the loans and the things we, want. In the meantime, all I can say to the rumor mill is, "take it easy, you're in soft dirt and you're wheels are spinning. If you keep it up your going to get stuck." To you folks who really want to see this plant get going and want to help, I have two suggestions which I believe will be the best help. First, support your development company so that it is a real organization and can take the action which is needed with your full support. Second, write to your Representative, Mr. Lawrence Burton, and our two Senators, Mr. Moss and Mr. Bennett. Tell those people of the SBA application for the Beaver Manufacturing Co. and express to them how important it is to this community that the application be approved It would be nice if we had enough money to be able to run this plant by ourselves, the trouble is, we don't. We must have approval of the application for SBA help and to get it we are going to have to make it unpleasant for anyone who is not supporting us so that he will be able to see the error of his ways. We aren't asking for a grant but rather for a loan that is to be repaid in full with interest. The government will not only get their loan money back but will also gain extra thousands in taxes on the earnings of the employees. I can see no excuse for a delay on the part of SBA on approving this loan except that we have not been able to show what this factory and its payroll should mean to our community. Don't put off writing, do it now and then do it again, flood those offices as they have never been flooded before and keep it up until we have the Senators and representatives here to tell us the good news that the loan has been approved. It took the people in Gooding three years to get their loans and we don't have that much time. Let's force the issue and get it in a week. The Beaver Club will also oppose any late or extended hunts this fall. First, the sportsmen of Beaver can't see any good that comes from killing the deer in November when they're not good to eat. Second, it encourages some hunters who have already filled their tags to go out and hunt illegally. As some did last year on the second and third week-end- s in November. The Little League organization includes boys from eight to thirteen years who participate in cither the Little League or the Minor League. Each team has fifteen boys participating. There are four Little League teams and several Minor League teams. A great deal of work and effort goes into the program and two city lot3 just east of the Swimming pool have been leveled tnd improved for the boys. One ball park has been completed except for the bleachers and construction on them will start right away. Thi3 fall the other park will be grassed so that it can be used next year, according to Gerald Vickers, president of the organization. The new bleachers will make it possible for Beaver to make a bid for the All Star Games at the completion of the local games next year.
