THE PAST YEAR has been the busiest we've ever known. period we gained 20,806 telephones in Utah twice as many as in any twelve-mont- h period before in our history! During that KNOW YOUR UTAH! twelve-mont- h At the first of this year there were 11,299 Utah families whose orders for service had not been filled. 9,887 of those applicants now have service. In spite of every effort we have been unable to catch up with demand, however, for as old orders are cleared new orders for service pile up. We want the 9,200 families who are now waiting, to know that we are doing our best to serve them soon. Do You Know The Answers When Tourists Ask About Utah? That's an increase of 23 over last year, which had been our busiest year. Long Distance calls too are at an high. all-tim- e As yout telephone needs have increased, we have increased our '::.es to take care of those needs and we now have more employees than ever before. In 1940 there 1286; today there are 2164. They have been resourceful and competent in meeting unprecewere dented demands for service. There has been no time when what we call the "Spirit of Service" was more important. We are carrying out the largest construction program in Utah in our this year. Despite history material shortages, our gross construction program in this state in 1946 will amount to approximately $3,433,000. All of us in the telephone business look forward to the day when there will be no one waiting for telephones; better, faster service for local and long distance calls; fewer people on party lines; and greatly improved service in rural communities. We are making steady progress toward that goal. JLL. THE MOUNTAIN STATES TELEPHONE i e Dem- jber, 1946. BEAVER CITY By Estella Thompson, Record (First pub.
