MACARONI 31b Specialists Test Pressure Cookers Miss Elna Miller and Miss Mil dred Bowers, specialists of the Utah State Agricultural College extenlson service, tested 79 pressure cookers at Mlnersvllle, Beaver and Milford Flat on August 3 4 and 5 respectively. Very few of the cookers were accurate and this Is no doubt the reason for food spoilage reported by some housewives. Even new cookers were found, to be Inaccurate. Miss Miller in &er new bulletin, "Can the Safe Way" states, "a pressure cooker is as safe as any other equipment in the home provided it is used correctly. Meats, including poultry and fish; also corn, greens pumpkins and squash require a processing temperature of 250 degrees F. to make them safe, other vegetables may be processed at 240 degrees F. These temperatures are not possible without a pressure cooker nor can they be reached unless the cooker Is operated correctly." Miss Bowers will be schoduled to do additional work in Beaver County in the near future. No doubt many cookers have not been tested and It sufficient requests for testing are made to the county agent, part of Miss Bowers time will be spent for testing poses. KOW KOUNTY KARNIVAL AND C.W.
