"This is a chance for us to see the production and maintenance process that go on here and see where technology can make a difference," said Air Force SAB chairman Dr. Robert W. Seldon. "We haven't been to a logistics base in a long time and this is an opportunity for us to come to a base that has changed a lot over the last few years because of BRAC and base closures. Hill has both missile and aircraft and it's good for us to see a cross section of things." Ogden Air Logistics Center commander Maj. Gen. Scott Bergren described Hill to the board as a microcosm of the Air Force. "We have a fighter wing, a depot, and a logistics center," Bergren said who credited a partnership of highly motivated civilian and military workers with Hill's continued success. Since 1947, the SAB has been the bridge between the Air Force and the nation's scientific and technical community. The board is made up of some of the nation's top scientific minds from outside of the military and government "We bring people from the outside to look at activities in a different way and come up with suggestions," said Seldon who served as the Air Force's $jU Lord." The National Day of Prayer is a yearly event for Americans to take time to pray for the nation and its leaders. National days of prayer have been called as early as 1775 with the First Continental Congress. Abraham Lincoln also called for such a day in 1863. The National Day of Prayer was established as an annual event by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952, and signed into law by Harry S Truman. The law was amended in 1988 and signed by Ronald Reagan to be observed on the first Thursday of May each year. When President Truman signed the congressional resolution establishing an annual day of prayer in our nation, he encouraged citizens to "beseech God to grant us wisdom to know the course which we should follow, and strength and patience to pursue that course steadfastly." Although nearly 50 years have passed, President Truman's exhortation has not been forgotten. For more details, contact Chaplain (Capt.)
