Nalley's, SLC, Logan Dugway Local cage tourney beckons 8 teams statewide dependent basketball teams from throughout the state are set to begin firing baskets Thursday night in the 27th annual Helper Lions Invitational Tournament. The meet continues Friday and Saturday nights, 11 games in all, at the Helper Junior High gym. The defending champions in the meet, of Salt Lake City, will not be on hand to defend their title, but three former winners from years past in the long history of the meet, Veltri Drug, the Logan entry and Levin's Insurance, will be gunning to regain top honors this year. The honor of opening the tournament on Thursday night at 6 p.m. goes to the host team, Veltri Drug, champions of the Helper recreation league the past two years. Veltri's will face a tough aggregation from Provo playing under the banner of Mountain Motors. Rufus Ellington, leads the Veltri crew and has added two CEU cagers, Nate Phillips and Ronnie Stubbs to his roster to go Walter Borla, Staff Writer 1 MARCH-25-26-- the tournament, Chester Oliver's Levin's Insurance team from Orem will meet the Dugway Blues, a service team from the military base at Dugway in Tooele County. The Dugway team is returning to the Helper meet after an absence of several years. Levin's won championships in 1965, 1966 and 1972 and have always been one of the top competitors in the tournament through the years. This year's team promises to make it tough on any opponent they meet with Grig Clawson and Gifford Nielsen of BYU in a lineup that also includes Craig Drury, Gary Herbert, together Continental Coffee of Salt Lake City and Tracey's Conoco of Castle Dale.
