Mr. and Mrs. Burrell Porter of Helper returned last Saturday from a 2 week vacation in Manhattan, Kansas where they met their new grandson David Sterling, 1 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Larson. Their daughter Joyce describes the baby as weighing 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 20V2 inches tall. The baby was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Manhattan. While ther, Mr. and Mrs. home Mr. and Mrs. Grant Howell and family spent last week-enElk hunting on Ferron Mountain with Grant's father Mr. Tharol Howell of Nephi, Utah. Carolyn Howell spent Saturday and Sunday with her family and returned to d L.D.S. Business College which she is now attending. Mr. and Mrs. Fidell Sanchez of Spring Glen recently had Mr. and Mrs. Sam Franco and their daughter Mrs. Mary Louise Garcia from Los Angeles as houseguests. Mrs. Pierina Crocco recently attended the State Board Meeting for D.C.C.W in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Linden Laws and children Jeff, Nanette and Kristin, spent last weekend in Riverton and Green River, Wyoming. They have already Scottish Shortbread by Jean Ann Dimick Here's a Scottish shortbread you can incorporate into your international recipe's for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Mary Beveridge of Helper was given this recipe by Mrs. Edwin Long who is of Scottish decent. Mary's husband Tom is from Scotland and says "over there they make the shortbread in a large round loaf and decorate the top very elaborately." Mary prefers to make her shortbread into round indivdual cookies. She says you can use any type cookie cutter. Scottish Shortbread 1 lb. butter (soft 1 cup powdered sugar 1 cup cornstarch 4 cups flour (measure flour after it has been sifted) Cream butter and powdered sugar well. Sift the flour and cornstarch then add to butter and powdered sugar. Mix with hands. Roll out V inch thick on lightly floured bread board or table. The a flat knife to edges of the dough will crack-u- se work edges together. Then cut with cookie cutter-a- ny design. 2 Set oven at 400 degrees and bake for minutes depending on your oven.
