Eggs At this season of the year eggs are naturally very cheap, in some Instances so cheap that you would question their freshness. We have bought from some reliable people a large quantity of fresh eggs which we can guarantee to you. They will be on sale Saturday at 12c a dozen. White King During the past winter many of the frugal housewives have saved scraps of bacon rinds and refuse grease. With a little extra effort these savings may be converted into a useable grade of soap, Following is a recipe which is recommended by the extension service of the Utah State Agricultural college: Into an iron kettle pour two gallons of water. Then empty three cans of lye into it Let cool for an hour or longer; place on the stove and add 15 pounds of meat scraps. Boil this mixture until all of the meat particles are dissolved. During this process add about two gallons of water from time to time to keep the material from boiling over. After the meat is dissolved set the vessel aside to cool until the next day. As the liquid cools a white crust substance and a brown jelly-lik- e will form on the surface. Skim this off, leaving the sediment in the bottom. Throw the sediment away, wash the vessel, then place the material back into the kettle and boil for two hours. Add hot r boiling water until the soap be comes the consistency of a thicK honey when dropped from a stick. Be careful not to add too much water. The soap Is now ready to pour into moulds or boxes. Covering it while cooling adds to its quality. The soap may also be left to cool in the vessel in which it was made. After solidifying it may be cut into desirable sizes. Do not use aluminum utensils. An iron kettle is preferable as a strong lye solution will attack copexper, zinc and tin to a certain tent, the extension service warns. Immediately following the first shocks, the son hurried to the home of his mother in Long Beach, only to find her lying dead on the floor. Word received here did not advise whether it was thru injury or heart failure. Mrs. Black In Long Beach Mrs. G. E. Black, wife of George Black of Martin, is in Long Beach for the winter where Vonda, her daughter, is attending school. Mrs. Black, in writing of the quake, states it occured just as supper was being prepared. They were standing in the center of the room when a noise occured resembling a falling plane, then increasing in intensity. Simultaneously the floor began to rock and sway and they realized the noise was the crashing of buildings and falling of walls. They staggered across the floor and sat down on the davenport un til the first shocks had subsided. Mrs. Black reports broken dishes, falling plaster and loosening of the doorstep as injury to her home. Miss Vonda was a student at the high Long Beach Polytechnic school which was completely destroyed. 4 Art - FANCY U. S.
