OSTLER, Correspondent Mrs. Dunn Taylor Heads Sandy P-TA Mrs Punn Taylor was elected president of the Sandy P·TA succeeding Mrs J Marvin Larson, at a meeting Wednesday evening. Mrs Curtis Hawkins was elected first vice president ; G Reed Sanderson, second vice president; Mrs Ruth A Sterling, secretary -treasur~ er of the organization. Reports on the accomplishments of the past year were given by the committee chairmen, and a report \Vas also given by the retiring sec· 1etary, Mrs Ruth Henschke. A p,ogram !eaturing the land of the cherry blossoms, Japan, un· der direction of J S Seito, Sandy, and Hiro Yasukochi, was present· ed and much enjoyed. Sandy Couple To Be Honored on 50th Weddin9 Anniversary Mr & Mrs Enoch Wallgren of Sandy will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, May 14, at their home with a family dinner for their children, grandchildren and great grandcbildren. Open house reception and dance honoring Mr & Mrs Wallgren will be held Saturday at 8:30 p m in Pioneer hall, West Jordan, to which all relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mr \1\Tallgren was born at Stock· holm, Sweden, April 25, 1877. He came to America wHh his fam· Hy when he was nine years old. Mrs (Lorenna Beckstead) Wa11gren, a daughter of Mr & Mrs W A Beckstead, was born July 3, 1882 at South Jordan. The couple were married May 14, 1900 in Salt Lake City. They made their home in South Jordan, Salt Lake, and at their present address in Sandy for the past 35 years. Mr. 'Wallgren is a veteran of the Spanish Ameritan war, and has followed the occupa· tion of ~_'lining ~ost of ~ life. Of their 14 children, mne are living: David Wallgren and, J~hn R Wallgren of Sandy; Wtlltam Wallgren, Pittsburg, Calif; Ross Wallgren, Elof Wallgren and Mrs Mary Johnson,. Midvale; Mrs Ber· tha Allen, Asl!on, Wash; Mrs Nellie Eckland, Salt Lake C1ty; Ml·s Esther Gerona, Draper. Tbey have 32 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Service Held For Daniel A Allsop Funeral services for Daniel Arthur Allsop, 69, who died at his home in Sandy, Friday, following a lingering illness, were conducted Tuesday at I p m, from Sandy First ward with Bishop John E Rich officiating. Speakers were James A Bateman of West Jordan, C Earl Alsop, of Salt Lake, and James D Rawson of East Midvale. Closing remarks were by Bishop Rich. Musical numbers were by Mrs Elizabeth Sorenson and M<s Madge Thorpe, duet; violin duet, Clifton Allsop and La Mar Allsop; organ selections by Marlin Tolman. Interment was made in Sandy City cemetery under direction of Goff Mortuary. Dedication of the grave was by F Oliver Grundvig. Mr Allsop was a retired employee of the U S Smelting and Refining Co, at Midvale, where he had been employed for 35 years. He was born Oct. 2, 1880 in Sandy a son of Thomas and Mary Roberts Allsop. He married Cora E Gunderson Sept. 25, 1901. He was active in the Sandy First LDS ward. He is sur vived by his widow; one son, R A Allsop of Salt Lake City; daughters, Mrs Velora A Le Fevre and Mrs Delores T Alvey ol Sandy, and Mrs Marie A Grundvig, Sunnyside, Wash; one brother Melvin McNarney, Sandy; two sis~ ters, Mrs Maria Anderson, Sandy, and Mrs Sadie Schlington, Chico, Calif; and 13 grandchildren. Meetin9 Features 'Pioneer Recipes' The lesson, ''Pioneer Recipes," was presented by class leader, M1•s 1 Ellleda L J ensen at a meeting of the Sandburr Camp, DUP, Tburs· d•v of last week at Mt Jordan st~ke office in Sandy, with Mrs 1 ZeUa M Swenson, captain, in charge. The history of Mrs Mary E A Jensen, a charter member of the C8hJp, was read by Mrs Veloy All· sop. A vocal solo was presented by Miss Rita Setterberg. Following the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostess~s, Mrs Bonnie Dowding and Mrs Mary Bateman. More than 170 members of the Sandy First ward Primary took party in the annual Primary conference Sunday evening in the ward ohapel. Mrs Bertha Richards, president, presided and presented the welcome address. The conference theme, uThe Lord's Prayer," was highlighted by the presentation of pictures. Quar· tet numbers were given by Jeannette Kunz, Carol Longson, Don Campbell and Merrill Brinton. The closing poem, ' 1Never Amen", was by Marjorie Sagers. Miss Arlene Adams was reader with greetings by Marlene Wright and Ranee Mothers' Day ••• May S4 • Simmonson. SANDY LEGION AUXILIARY PLANS LUNCHEON AND PARTY The annual luncheon and card party sponsored by the Sandy American Legion auxiliary will be l1eld May 20 at 1 p m, at the congregational church, according to Mrs Gleen W Richards, president. The luncheon will be under the direction of the past presidents of the unit, with Mrs Muryel A Stuart as chairman. Reservations may be made with Mrs Richards, Mrs Stuart or Mrs Robert Christensen by Thursday evening, May 15. NAVY VETERAN VISITS PARENTS, RELATIVES HERE Mr & Mrs M B Olson and son Alan of Rio, Wis., visited during the past week with Mr & Mr$ E M Olson of West Jordan, and rela· liv•'· They visited in Idaho with friends and relatives. · Mr Olson has been aboard a destroyer, stationed in the Carribean, and has completed 16 years of service with the U S navy. His present ran.k is Chief Engineer. His service has taken him to Ja· pan . China, Pacific Islands, England, Indo-China, Australia, and various South and Central American cou~tries.
