For the past several months he has been doing cleri~al work at the Base Finance offlce at the Davis Monthan Field. Seargent Lloyd McGee, formerly of Granite," who reinlisted z years e.go for a 3 year term, is home ~n joying a 30 day furlough. Durmg the past 2 years he has been With the occupation forces in Germany and has been teaching firs_t aid in a hospital. He flew across the Atlantic to New York, where he entrained for Utah. His future assignment has not as yet be~~ ~n nounced. At present he is VlSltmg at the home of his sister, Mrs Charles Ward Despain in Granite and his parents in American Fork. Marion Hanks, West High seminary instructor of Salt Lake City, gave a splendid address to the people of Granite in their sacrament service last Sunday evenmg. Musical numbers were furnished by Mr & Mrs M K Bunnel and children of Holladay. Mr & Mrs c R Higgins were dinner guests at the A E Fisher home in Salt Lake City Saturday night. The occasion was given in compliment to the birthday of Mrs Higgins. Mr & Mrs Don Neilzon and children of Montpelier, Idaho, were Granite visitors at the home of her mother, Mrs Emma Beckstead last week end. Granite M.I.A. enjoyed a jolly Yule-tide get-to-gether last Tuesday night carrol singing and dancing. Holiday treats were also featured. Miss Patsy Whitmore, daughter of Mr & Mrs Rich Whitmore of Wasatch is recuperating, following an appendictomy last week end at the St. Marks hospital. Mr & Mrs S Peter Petersen enjoyed Christmas Eve festivities in Salt Lake City at the home of their daughter, Mrs V M Butler & family. A baby girl arrived Dec. 16 at the Cottonwood maternity hospital for Mr & Mrs George Ebert. They now have 2 daughters. Mr & Mrs •Ward Despain joined in a family gathering at Roso McGee home in American Fork Christmas Eve. Mr & Mrs C R Higgins entertained a group of Salt Lake City friends Wednesday evening at a delightful Christmas Eve dinner. Covers were laid for eight. UNION Mrs. Ellen Nance, Reporter Mrs Alice Gould entertained for her daughter, Jackie, on Sunday, Dec. 21, the occasion being Jackie's birthday. Dinner guests were Mr & Mrs Del Nickle, Mr & Mrs Milton Nickle, Mr & Mrs Wayne Gould, Miss Phyllis Gould• and Mr George Gould. The American Legion and the Legion auxiliary officers distributed Christmas baskets to veterans' widows and veteran families. Mr & Mrs Reed Newbold entertained Tuesday night, Dec. 23, for Mr & Mrs Milton Nickle, Mr & Mr:;; Ronald Beckstrom, Mr & Mrs David Jones. Gifts were exchanged, progressive games were played and refreshments served. A meeting was held Monday night at the Union school house regarding the community park center and playground equipment. The following represented the various community organizations: Ras Greer and Bill Townsend represented the two wards, Pearl ,Greer the P.T.A., Edna Proctor the D. U.P., Lawrence Brady the American Legion, Alice Gould the Legion auxiliary, Supt. Arthur Peterson, Clarence Nelson, Horace •r Godfrey the school board; Elmo Brady the county recreation department, Pat Nowlan and Delbert Newbold the Lion's club. Mr & Mrs Gerald Brady entertained Dec. 18, for Mr & Mrs Edison Denney, Mr & Mrs Del Nickle, Mr & Mrs Dellis Forbush, Mr & Mrs Marvin Beckstrom, Mr & Mrs Odie Brady of Ogden, and Mr CRESCENT George Brady and son, Wayne. Supper was served and the remainder of the evening was spent in singing carols. At the clos~ of the evening they were surpnsed by a visit from Santa Claus who presented each with a gift. Mrs Hyrum Brady entertained Sunday, for her family, the occasion being Mr Brady's birthday. Dinner was served to 14 and the afternoon and evening was spent in visiting, singing and playing games. Miss Melba Brady etertained for the I.W.W. Club Monday night. Gifts for each girl's hope chest were exchanged. Games were played and refreShrn ents served. Word was received that Elder Melvin Brady arrived safely to Monte Video headquarters for the Uruguayan misl:lion. He is enjoying his work very much. A cablegram was received Tuesday morning from Mr & M:rs Pierce Brady who are in Argentina. He wished the family a Merry Christmas and his father, Mr Hyrum Brady, a happy birthday. Word was received this Morning by Mrs Edna Proctor that Mrs Paul Sackett's 10-month old baby passed away. Mrs Sackebt: is the former Louisa M a e Proctor. daughter of Roland Proctor, for· merly of Union. A Christmas program and party for the Union Second ward was held in the amusemerut hall Tuesday night. A pageant and two 1act plays along with a musical prog-ram was presented. The evening's entertainment was under the direction of the junior Sunday school and Primary officers and teachers. Santa Claus presented each of the kiddies with a gift. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers held their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs Leila Nix. The lesson was given by Mrs Mary Milne "Old Fashioned Albums". Gifts were exchanged and luncheon served. Hosts for the evening were Mrs Flora Smart, Mrs Dora Thomas, Mrs Leila_ Nix and Mrs Ellen Brady. The M-Men and Gleaners of the Union First ward went caroling Sunday night, after which they went to the hCime of Miss Joyce Brady for refreshments. The annual Christmas party for the Ernest Croxford family was held at the home of Mr & Mrs Royal Walker. They exchanged gifts, played games and refreshments were served. All of the cousins of the Ernest Croxford family met at the home of Miss Maxine and Jenene Walker for a Christmas party. Progressive games were played and refreshments served. Mr Ro-yal Walker has returned home for the holidays from Anderson Dam at Mountain Home, Idaho. He will return on January 5 to work on the Dam. The Union First ward M.I.A. presented the one-aot play, "Joyful and Triumphant" on Wednesday evening, Dec. 17. It was under the diredion of the drama, speech and music leaders of the M.I.A. The Junior high school band and chorus werut caroling throughout the community on Friday the 19th, during Which time the elementary school held a special program in the auditorium. The afternoon was spent by each class holding their individual parties in their rooms. The sacrament meeting for Union First ward was held in connection with Sunday school. The playlett "Why the Chimes Rang" was presented with Garwin Farnsworth, Faye Heusser and Eve Croxford faking the leading parts. Claron Covington was the King. Mr George Barton and his daughter, LaRue, and Mrs Varda Despain furnished musical numbers. Yuletide decorations were installed on Main street by the Lions club, directed by T Ralph Butterfield. Mrs John A Butterfield recently entertained at a birthday dinner in honor of her son, Floyd Bodell. Other guests besides Mr & Mrs Bodell were Mr & Mrs Martell Bodell and family, Mr & Mrs Blaine Bodell and family, Mr & Mrs James Bodell & family, all of Salt Lake, Mrs Martha Chipman of American Fork ' and John A Butterfield. Mrs Muriel Bodell is home from the hospital, where she underwent a major operation. Nathaniel Crane of Nevada, is spending the holidays home with his family. . Art Bastian of Salt Lake was a guest of Arthur Poor Thurs· day evening. Jimmy Miller, son of Mr & Mrs J Art Miller, is at the LDS hospital where he was operated on for appendicitis. Dinner was served to 24 persons, followed by games and the exchange of gifts. Mr & Mrs Frank Jones of Byron, Wyo., visited 2 days last week with her sister and brotherin-law, Mr & Mrs Dick H Dean. The Jones were enroute to California for the holidays. Mr & Mrs Douglas Kemp spent Sunday evening at the home of Mr & Mrs Dawd Brown in Midvale. Christmas dinner guests of Mr & Mrs W I Nielsen were Mr & Mrs L C Jones and daughter Miriam, of Copperton; Mrs Heber .r Sears of Salt Lake, and Mr & Mrs John A Samuelson and daughters, Jacque Ann and RoLayne, of Sandy. Mrs Theron C Olsen entertained the Friendship Club, Wednesday. Sewing was the diversion of the afternoon. Refreshments were served to 9 guests. Little Jacque Ann Samuelson sat on Santa's lap and chatted with him during the Z.C.M.I. broadcast from the toy department last Friday. Jacque sang "Jingle Bells", and told Santa Claus that she will be 4 years old in January. She also had her picture taken and a recording made of her visit with Santa. and family spent Sunday visiting at the A H Dansie home. The family reunion of Mrs Jeanette Crane, was held at the Riverton 1st ward chapel Friday evening with Florence Page as chairman. A fine program was rendered, including a readiz:g by Mrs Jeanette Crane, who IS in her 90th year. The music and Christmas caroling was directed by Mrs Tearis Ingram accompanied by Miss Roberta Crane. Refreshments were served to 75. Miss Elise Poor was the guest of Claudia Crane • at the Crane reunion last Friday evening.
