' ' William Presler, son of Mrs Bessie Presler, is in Midvale for a few days between cruises with the Merchant Marine. Bill recently returned from a voyage to South America. Robert L McMullin, son of Mr of Midvale, is home on terminal leave with his family in Salt Lake City. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the army recently, before coming back from the Pacific. A graduate of the University of Utah, where he took ROTC work, Lt-Col McMullin entered the army in June, 1941, as a second-lieutenant. & Mrs L R McMullin Bishop and Mrs Reed Beckstead entertained a group of frien ds recently at their home on Lincoln street. Those present were Mr & Mrs 0 Layton Allredge of Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr & Mrs Claron Allredge, Mr & Mrs Earl Hutchings of Salt Lake City and Mr & Mrs LeRoy Duncan of Centerville. Mr Duncan was recently appointed president of the new Davis LDS stake. Many happy returns of the day go to Keith Matthews, son of Mr & Mrs C E Matthews, who celebrated hls 16th birthday on Sunday. Keith , with friends, spent the day skiing at Alta lodge after which his mother entertained at dinner at their home on Lincoln street in Keith's honor. Mr & Mrs Howard Phelps were dinner guests at the Joseph Cutler home in Draper Sunday. Other guests were Mr & Mrs Joseph Heward and -Mr & Mrs Chris Henderson. Sgt Tracy Nelson, son of Dr & Mrs Harold E Nelson, has received his discharge from the army. He arrived home New Year's day. Friends of Tracy are happy to welcome him home. Cpl Barbara Taft of the WACs, stationed at Ft Sam Houston, Texas, returned to her post Sunday, foJiowing a 30-day furlough spent with her parents, Mr & Mrs Ivan Taft. Mr & Mrs Marvin Brown entertained recently for Sgt John H Marchant, who was home from Craig Field, Ala. Dr L C Joseph of Sandy, recently returned from army service, has re-established his dental practice and has opened an office at 7660 S. State, Midvale junction. Mrs C E Matthews, president. Guest speaker will be Mrs Cornelia S Lund, Salt Lake county recorder. A special program is also being arranged, Mrs Matthews added. Persons interested are invited to attend the meeting. Mr & Mrs George Thruston of Riverside, Calif., arrived Wednesday noon to spend a few days visiting at the Herbert J Zafft home, 28 Second Ave, Midvale. The Thrustons and Zatfts were close friends when both families resided at Emmett, Idaho. From here, the visitors expect to travel on to Denver, Colo., to visit relatives and friends. · Harry M Nicholson is reported to be improving at his home from an illness of several week's du"rat~on. The game with Bingham was played in the local gym. Bob Cutler was high for Midvale with 13 points and Boyd Stoddard added 8 points to Bingham's score. The game ended 23 to 14. Our· second game was played on the Sandy floor, and proved that Midvale will be a threat for the Jordan district championship. Midvale won easily 20 to 6. Blaine Tempest. During the noon hour we are playing intermural games. The teams are made up in each grade, and each has its own name, such as Bobcats, Sinners, Yankees, Georgians, Pirates, Hot Shots, Fighting Tigers, .Cats, Batty Five, Simplot Midvalians, & Runaways. This group discusses problems of the student body and ways to im prove our school. They also act as our student court. •They try all cases turned in by our Junior Police.
