Games too, are plentiful and most ol them have developed mental as well as entertainment va 1ue, and have the added good of promoting c.ooperative effort. Most toys and games are useful in helping to develop a wellrounded personality, but there are some on the market whose influence is positively harmful • and pernicious both to the individual and to society, and unfortunately these are the ones many children desire most. All too often parents either do not realize t heir harmful effects or do not have the moral courage to deny their children things so urgently wanted. At a time like this Christmas Good a n d Bad Christmas is over; the litter cleared up. and the yo ungsters h.JV<:' settled down to p lay with. their gift>. From t his play will come a portion ·of t heir development-perhaps a major portion. We are what we a re largely because of the ex periences of our child hood, a nd t h e games we p lay, together with the playthings used, condition those ex- periences. Perhaps no one factor has done more to make girls better mothers than the make- believe 1 1teepin g house" of childhood d ays.
