Show ~riday, THE UTE SENTINEL, MIDVALE, UTAH January 27, 1939. Hints 1o'l. American Womanhood 1he Housewite You can have exactly the kind of hair you want if you work for H. Even if your locks are dull and uninviting there is hope for you, according to Ruth Murrin, director of Good Housekeeping's beauty clinic. "A new crop of hair keeps coming along at the rate of about an inch every six weeks," she says in the February issue of the mags.. zine, 'and it is largely up to you whether a year from now you have a shining mane or a lifeless mop:• There are very definite formula. for keeping your hair healthy and shiny, with body and spring, 110 that you can brush it in place an<! then forget it because you know it will behave. Miss Murrin points out the essential care which must be taken if you are to make that new crop of hair as glistening and manageable as you want it to be. By 1\larion Cunningham Beauty Culture Lectures Given To Home Ec. Girls (From The Broadcaster) Beauty culture meetings have been held the past two Mondays for the girls of the second period -classes in sewing and physical education. Monday, January 9, two beauticians from the Excelcis Beauty school gave a demonstration on manicuring nalls. A speech was given on the care of the nalls, and the girls were told what to use and what not to use on theirs. These beauticians mentioned the fact that some women are painting their nails heart-shaped, polka-dot, and even striped; however, they assured the girls that such styles are considered extreme. Monday, January 16, Miss Bernice Jensen from Sandy met with the same girls and gave them advice on the care of the hair, including various hair styles for different people, dandruff, shampoos, and dye or color rinses. "The 'up-swept' hair style should Rot be used by everyone," advised Miss Jensen. "Part your hair every way, high and low. When you've found.the style that fits you bestuse it. Don't be influenced by society's hair fads." "Dyes should be used very carefully," she told the girls. Many of them contain metals which make a coating on the hair." DIVINE LOVE IS PRAISED IN TOPIC "Love" is the subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, January 29. The Golden Text is: "How excellent ;is thy loving kindness, 0 God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings" {Psalms 36:7). Selections from the Bible embrace the following verse: "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Accompanying the verse is the following from "Science an d Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "This text in the book of EcclesIastes conveys the Christian Science thought, especially when the word 'duty', which is not in the original, is omitted . . . In other words : Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: love God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole of man in His image and likeness. Divine Love is infinite. Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love" {p. 340). • I KNOW YOURSELF AND DRESS THE PART H AVE you ever tried to classify your type? It's fun to pigeonhole yourself and the fashion staff of Pictorial Review presents a set of clever mannequins In the magazine's February laaue to guide you In dressing to suit your type. For women who are chronic furniture movers or who delight in new ideas in home furnishings, the Pennanent Exhibition of Decorative Arts and Crafts in the International building, Radio City, New York, is full of practical and ingenious suggestions.
