'l'he importance of helping one another, was the keynote of the talk given by Elder Richard R. Lyman of the council of twleve apostles at East Jordan stake quarterly conference, held Saturday evening at Draper • Second ward chapel and Sunday at Sandy recreation hall, with President Heber J. Burgon in charge. Elder Lyman said that by living the great fundamental principle of the gospel, "it is more blessed to give than to receive", that we will be rewarded not for what we UTAH COPPER :~:;d~~~~e :~~:·s c::rt:h h=~ TO REDUCE ITS possess but for what we give. This information was given to The Sentinel this week by Lawrence Brown, acting postmaster during the incapacity of Postmaster Melvin Lind, following an official visit by a United States postal inspector. Christmas mailing business in the local postoffice was larger in 1938 than a year ago, it was announced by Mr. Brown. One reason for this increase in holiday receipts was the sale last Christmas of 35,000 one and one-half cent stamps, compared with 17,000 in 1937. ... PLANS FOR THE BIRTHDAY FETE COMPLETE HERE South Salt Lake county residents will celebrate Monday evening at the various entertalnments to be held in the drive for infantile paralysis funds. The occasion is President Roosevelt's birthday, which annually is set apart for the paralysis campaign. Mayor J. Hollis Aylett of Midvale, chairman of the local committee, states that arrangements have been completed for the occasion. A meeting of the entire committee was held last Monday night to make final preparations, and another general meeting will be held n ext Wednesday to check up on the results of the local celebration. Tickets are being sold at 25 cents each for admision to any of the following amusements: dance at Sandy amusement hall which will include a floor show; doubleheader basketball game at the Midvale junior high school with South Jordan p.itted against Midvale First ward, and West Jordan versus Crescent, the first game to start at 7:30 p. m. ; picture shows at the Iris theatre in Midvale or the Burk theatre in Sandy. As the time nears for the President's birthday celebrations to raise funds for the national fight on infantile paralysis, members of the Salt Lake county committee in charge are enthusiastic about the prospects for raising more money than ever before, it was announced today by F. Edward Walker, acting county chairman. Mr. Walker and C. Clarence Neslen, state chairman, met with the members of the committee early in the week to hear their reports and were delighted with the work that has already beeu done.
