Isler, Clerk The management of the JORDAN JOURNAL has expressed the desire to devote an adequate amount of space in each issue to the Poultry Industry, recognizing no doubt the present importance and future possibilities of that industry in this vicinity. The State of Utah is particularly well adapted to poultry and egg ~~·~ duction. The winters are milo, and a 60 per cent egg production from pullets during the winter season i~ not difficult of attainment. Climatic conditions the year around are :mch · as to reduce losses to a minimum. Even in mid-summer the cool nights have a very salutary effect upon the condition of the fowls. Briefly then, I 1 it is doubtful if a more favorable lof or poultry and egg prouuc. catwn tion can be found thruout the ll;!nd. We have at times wondered whv the people of this valley did not, i~ g1eater numbers, recognize this favorable environment. Dbtance from 1narket (i. e. New York and the At!antic Coast) is in part compen:;ated by two factor:;: lower feed co;;ts anu a well organized cooperative marketing agency. These factors likewise plac.:e utah producers in a favol·able position to enter the Los Angeles llJal'ket, and a con. iderable part of our production is marketed there. California, with its enormous egg production, produces about 5 per cent of the total production for the United States. So it is apparent,' looking beyond the confines of our local market, that the field is large. It is our purpose, at a later date, to go into more detail on the question of past, present and future production of eggs in the united States and the factors that have brought about the con;;tant increase in egg consumption for the past decade, with a view to ascertaining, in some de-g-ree, what the future has in store. The Egg :\larket Local merchants are paying $9.00 case count. The New York market is firm at 42 cents for Extra;; and 37 cents for Selects. Freight to New York runs from 7 'h to '8 cents per dozen, whioh i~ of course, to be deuucted from above figures. Fiftieth M. I. A. Jubilee Parade at Salt Lake Sehool 10 o'clock.
