Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bateman and baby Bonnie, Mrs. Lydia Bateman and daughter, Luelle motored to Brigham City Friday and attended Peach Day celebration after which they visited friends and relaiives' at Brigham and Cache Valley, returning home Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Armond F. Rundquist and family motored to Hoytsville Sunday and were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Sb,eapard. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bateman and family were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Swensen at East Midvale on Sunday. Miss Erma Pixton is home and doing fine after an operation for appendicitis two weeks ago. Miss Gwen Silcox was operated on for throat trouble Monday. La Vern Finlayson is improving after having the misfortune of getting the arches of his foot broken while playing foot ball at high school two weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. LaMont Cundick have moved to Midvale to make their home. Mrs. Ernest Silcox was the guest of Mrs. Maggie Wheaden at Soutn Jordan Thursday. Thursday night of last week a party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gardner In honor of Mr. Gardner's birthday anniversary. A hot supper was served, covers beIng laid for fifty guests. A large number from this ward attended a farewell party in the South Jordan chapel and amusement hall Friday evening, given in honor of :Miss Helen McMullin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. 0. McMullin and Miss Ann Holt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. M. Holt. Miss McMullin will leave soon for the north-western states mission and Miss Holt for the western states. A purse of nearly one hundred dollars was presented to each missionary. The beautiful new modern home of Mrs. Rella McMullin on Redwood road is nearly completed. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lloyd have purchased a piece of land belonging to the Drake farm on Redwood road where they are preparing to erect a modern home In the near futur. WEST JORDAN Fun Features Billed Galore STAKE For The Fair The Stake Relief Society held a very splendid program, fiower show and art exhibit, Wednesday evening, September 18, in the Riverton amusement hall. Program commenced at 8 p. m. witlt the congregation singlug "Earth with her Ten Thousand Flowers," led by Delila Freeman. Opening prayer, Bishop Myel'S; an appreciative talk, Pres. Mary P!xton; musical numbers, Golden and Rosamond Holt, South Jordan; solo, Mrs. Roberts, Bingham; trio, Mr. and Mrs. 0. T. Hawkins and Mrs. Klyne of Bluffdale.... guitar selection, Gleaner Girls of Herriman; reading, Jennie Borgan, Riverton First ward and Emma Jacobson, Lark, Grace Malstrom of West Jordan. A pleasing number of the evening was Mothers Flower Garden by little girls in song and dance, costumed in paper dresses, representing the different fl.owers, under the sup<JV!sion of Sister May Glazier. The fiower display was beautiful and pleasing. A prize was given to the ward having the greatest variety. Riverton, second ward took the honor, having seventy-three varieties of J.1owers, also a prize was awarded for the best general display of flowers and art work. Riverton second ward received this prize also. Many beautiful pieces of hand work were shown. Tables were decorated all around the hall which was a wonderful sight. The affair was under the direction of Stake Board of the Relief Society and ward workers and all are to be commended for the efforts put forth and the success of the exhibit. Pie ala-mode was sold durlug the evening. Mrs. Myrtle Malstrom of West Jordan who bas had charge of the Senior work in the M. I. A. for a number of years has been selected as a Stake worker In the M. Circus acts, gorgeous fireworks, carnival amusements, band con· certs and harue~ racing-are a few features of the pretentious offering of the great "Golden Jubtlee Expostl!on". The management of the Fair has booked "Reta and Dunn", for their hair-raising h!gh-wirr act; a darl!ig exhibition of auto polo and auto pu~h ball; the "Great Curran", who sways on a slender pole, 90 feet above the ground; "The Four Flying Beckmans", aerialists of world renown; Fink Ani· mal Circus known ae America's great· est fair attraction; the DeLiberto-WJ· ber Trio, teeter board jumping marvels; Miss Eleanor Kerns, who turns complete somersaults In an automobile at a high rate of speed; epectacular pyrotechnic displays by the H!tt Fireworks Company; draft horse pulling contests, with big cash prizes; aud otber features too numerous to men· tlon. Practically all of these featuns and entertainment acts will be free to the public. The second annual Intermountain draft horse pulllug contest wtll be held during the week of the Fair. The famous dynamometer w!ll be used to acurrately gauge the pulling power .Jf the teams entered. A total of $500 In cash prizes w!ll be distributed to own· ers of the winning teams. Professor Kenaeth C. Ikeler of the Utah Agrl· cultural College w!l have charge of the contest. The Religion class work Is going forward satisfactory throughout the stake. The South Jordan ward workers were released, Mrs. Margaret Crawford as principal and Dorthea Newbold, secretary. Mrs. Osee Cooper, principal and Rosamond Maxfield, secretary are their successors.
