Question and answer sessions and demonstrations during the open house provided a better understanding of the mission of each battlelab and the accomplishments each had made during the first year of operation. "AF and DOD leadership are very interested in the battlelabs' progress," said a representative from the deputy chief of staff for air and space operations' battlelab integration division. "The hallway exhibit gives you clear evidence ofthe kinds of innovative warfighting concepts the battlelabs pursued to advance Air Force warfighting capabilities." Battlelabs are small and focused, and they rely on field ingenuity to identify innovative operational and logistical concepts for advancing the Air Force's core competencies. They draw upon established Air Force organizations, capabilities, and expertise to measure the potential worth of these concepts using courses of action ranging from modeling and simulation to actual employment of exploratory capabilities in operational environments. Successful battlelab initiatives should drive revisions to Air Force organizations, doctrine, training, requirements, or acquisitions. Learn a new skill at the Skills Development Center!
