Sanchez said he became involved with the leagues after they asked his son to help a wheelchair bowler. Max bowled at Hilltop on a regular basis and since Sanchez took Max to and from bowling, he decided to watch how Max was helping out. "After a while, they expected me to join in," Sanchez said. "It's my job to tease them." The special leagues are composed of youths and adults of all ages who are mentally or physically challenged to varied degrees. Sanchez organizes monthly bowling events between people from the different leagues in Davis and Weber counties and the Special Bowlers leagues. He said, "A lot of people get scared when they hear someone is 'mentally ill.'
