"It's good to work with the Army,' said SSgt Jerry DeRhodes, NCOIC of the team. In the past, communications equipment of different military branches were unable to work together." .The Golden Coyote exercise gave troops an opportunity to work with other branches. ' "For a long time Army, Air Force and Navy had separate systems and a lot of the equipment was different. Now, the equipment is more compatible," DeRhodes said. "We're trying to practice with the Army so we can all communicate and provide communications in the field together." The Army is simulating going out to the Geld and setting up different communication sites, then part of -- the link goes through us, DeRhodes said. The 729th ACS is trained to provide backup equip- ment, and this type of exercise keeps their skills ened in case of an actual mission. "If something happened, we would gear up to go and perhaps take over any mission, provide back up communications, or whatever they need us to do," DeRhodes said. "A lot of the information that will be passed through us to the command post will be vital for all services." Satellite communication wideband maintenance technician, SrA. Michael Holton, has worked with the exerArmy before and was happy to volunteer for the cise. He was also glad to see new squadron members have an opportunity to learn from the exercise.
