Show 10 May 26. 1995 Hilltop Times l Me open season runs through July 3 7 Thrift Savings Plan on G i b s Fund managers suggest goals setting long-ter- Every man dies, not every man really lives. m it works, assess your personal goals by Nancy Lucas Civilian Personnel Division The Thrift Savings Plan can be a great investment and retirement savings opportunity for federal and postal employees, but the TSP doesn't manage an employee's money. Each employee must steer the course of his or her investment ship, and recent experience shows that many TSP investors are not doing an efficient job of managing their investments. Huge sums of money have been moving among the three TSP invest- ment funds (stocks, bonds and government securities) in short-sighteattempts to catch the best rates of d return. The problem with this strategy is that the TSP is designed to be a long-tersavings program; and employees who are moving their money after hearing about a current trend end up losing money because the good part of the trend has passed by the time they hear about it. Buying high and selling low does not make money. How do you form a good strategy? Choose a long-tergoal and stick to it. Get to know the program and how m 3rfffafirM and preferences and apply that but keep in mind you are knowledge for the long term and for planning retirement. your How to move your money Moving your money is as easy as picking up the phone or signing a form. Look at your latest statement about midway down the page and find your PIN number. You can move existing funds from one account to another or you can get your account balance by calling the TSP Balance Hotline at (504) 255-600Form and Or, you can sign a TSP-3mail it in to the address listed on the 0. 0 form. Open season Open season began May 15 and lasts through July 31. It is open to all employees hired by Dec. 31, 1994. Anyone hired after that date must wait until Nov. 15. 1995 to sign a TSP-- enrollment form. Forms can be obtained at the Entitlements and Benefits Office, Bldg. 1245, Room 12. 1 Savings plan lists latest returns The Thrift Savings Board released the monthly returns for the period ending March 1995 for the three investment funds: the Government Securities Investment Fund (G Fund), the Common Stock Index Investment Fund (C Fund) and the Fixed Income Index Fund (F Fund). The C Fund is invested in the Wells Fargo Equity Index Fund, which tracks the S&P 500 stock index. The F Fund is invested in the Wells Fargo U.S. Debt Index Fund, which tracks the Shearson Lehman Brothers Aggregate bond index. The G Fund is invested in special issues of U.S. Treasury securities. The monthly C. F and G Fund returns represent net earnings for the month, after deduction of accrued administrative expenses. The C and F Fund returns also reflect the deduction of trading costs and accrued investment management fees. 51 Q225 C, mm F Months Wood Fire Roasted Chicken Fund 1990 1991 (Jan Dec.) 1992 (Jan.-Dec.- ) 1993 1994 (Jan.-Dec.- ) ( (Jan.-Dec.- ) (Jan.-Dec.- ) II r"iS I" cno,9 w m"l " OM LHr--Hi Itm or coxoo or nr pnon wr (Cmvmi aairaa Mr 1, IWS) I II II I I September October November December Indudn Ouortar ChKkcn I Sid Dnhn, Kwmy't MunVi ond 1 Bevtroo IC1 I -t .V WBl lM an coitvoM orfW pv pmM par m. ofv not Mnd cny oAf ipvod. 4rM Jut 1, tttS C9a This information furnished by the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Hoard ( F Fund 3.191 30.42 7.61 10.10 1.32 1.28 1.28 1.65 Walls Fargo U.S. Dabt Indax Fund 8.00 15.75 8.90 8.15 7.23 6.14 7.22 8.89 16.03 7.37 9.74 7.20 9.52 ( G Fund 2.96) 2.94) January February March Last 12 months chicken Dinners ( 2.44) 3.62) ( ( 3.28 4.10 ( 2.24 ( 2.45) ( ( 2.24 ( 3.64'-.- ) ( 1.48 2.58 3.87 2.94 15.53 2.59 3.89 2.95 ( ( ( .81) .02) .22) 1.98 .13 2.44) 1.49 .81) .02) .24) 1.97 1.47) .10) .23) .69 .56 .60 .69 .62 .60 .12 ( 1.47) .59 199 67 59 .08) .23) .69 ( ( .65 64 .68 1995 544-030- 3 Tfin flEC"!
