The commissioners, U.S. Rep. Jim Hansen BRAC staff members and the Air Force Materiel Command representative were taken on a whirlwind tour of the base. Winding up the day at a press conference with Wasatch Front newspapers and television stations, BRAC commissioners said they were impressed with what they saw. Assuring listeners that politics won't enter into the decision, Robles said, "I will tell you unequivocally that from where I sit, don't give a rat about electoral votes. That's not in my equation, never has been and never will be." The other commissioners said their attitudes were the same as Robles'. Cornelia added, "Coming from a state with only three electoral votes (South Dakota) can tell you that our decision will be made in a fair and impartial manner and on the eight criteria politics won't enter into my decision-makinprocess whatsoever."
