While the decision will save the dis trict an estimated $632,820, it has had great impact on parents and students throughout the county and at Hill AFB. Base officials are concerned and have taken action to ensure that base residents are treated fairly and with the same consideration as other residents of Davis County. Since this policy change affects base housing residents, a study was conducted to assess the impact of the busing changes on the safety of children and youth living on base. Of prime importance is the safety of the children who will now be walking to and from school. Walking to and from school can be a dangerous time for children, especially around Hill with its traffic pressures of people coming and going to work. Base officials have been working with Clearfield City and its police department to establish a safe route for students leaving Hill and walking to North Davis Jr. High. This route will be patrolled and snow removed from the route during the winter. (See Map 1, page 2.) Route for students walking from Hill AFB to North Davis Jr. High: The best and safest way to use this route is to enter Hill Field Elementary School grounds through the back gate, staying on the north side of the school ' building. A crossing lane across the frontage road (the road that runs in front of Hill Field Elementary School) should be used to get to the south side of with their students before school starts to familiathe frontage road. There will be busing for those students who attend Northridge High School. Students are eligible for busing to Area B North Lay ton Jr. High and to South Clearfield Elementary School. There is no busing to Northridge High School. Students will continue to be bused to Area C South Clearfield Elementary, North Lay ton Jr. High and Northridge High School.
