Show July 22, 1993 15 Hilltop Times Workers reap rewards for good ideas The Air Force Suggestion Program continues to thrive at Hill AFB. In May, workers shared their ideas with the Air Force and collected rewards for their efforts as follows. Connie D. Kidd, an equipment specialist in the Contracting Directorate, earned $1,364 for her suggestion that would save more than $22,000 on 0 main landing gear wheel assemblies. She suggested that instead of purchasing complete drive key assembly kits, only the drive key be purchased, since 98 percent of the replacements were the result of drive key damage. Eliminating the retainers and screws that were part of the assembly kit and purchasing only the drive keys resulted in significant savings in replacement costs. Walter L. Graves, Dixie L. Nielsen and Larry M. Peach won a suggestion award of $2,035, to be shared equally. The suggesters noted the replacement cost of 6 wing fairings purchased from the manufacturer reflected a 500 percent increase over the original cost. Since the fairings were coded as "restricted," meaning they could only be procured from the manufacturer, they took the necessary action to change the coding from restricted to open competition. The action has been completed and contracts have been awarded to a different manufacturer. Graves is an equipment specialist in the Commodities Directorate. Nielsen is a contract negotiator and Peach is an equipment specialist in the Contracting Directorate.
