Why do these ob$ clude current Hill AFB employees from applying? Present employees who want to change career fields and are willing to train, or may already qualify for these jobs, can't apply for I them. I In resDonse to vour inauirv 4 reeardiner posi- - tions advertised by Civilian Personnel Outside Hire, you did not address a particular position so I can only address your concerns in general terms. The Employment Office, Outside Hire, recruits from sources outside of Hill AFB, such as those new to government employment, former govern ment employees, and employees from other federal agencies. Current base employees are automatically considered for positions for which they qualify through the Merit Promotion System. This system screens the personnel records of all base employees for the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the positions being filled. Most positions are filled using internal merit promotion if there are qualified candidates. Sometimes, however, the selecting supervisor prefers to consider external candidates rather than promotion candidates. This preference is proper, provided the supervisor has given gaining unit employees first consideration and approval has been given to hire from outside resources. If you have questions concerning a specific position, please contact Kay Watanabe, Bldg. 555, Ext. 75559. Potential tragedy housing and I'd like to make vou aware of a possible tragedy I feel is in the making. I've seen small children no older than 2 years old walking or riding big wheels on the road without any supervision. Allowing small children to play in the road with no supervision could result in death or a severe injury. I think it's really something that the Air Force promotes the sale of adult magazines more than they promote aviation. Why can't we get flying magazines anymore? The exchange general manager reviewed the magazine assortments at the main store and Shoppette.j The main store has five aviation magazines in its stock assortment and the Shoppette carries two. Sales and titles of adult material exceed those of aviation magazines in the industry as a whole; the same is true here at Hill AFB. If you cannot find an aviation magazine you want, the exchange general manager recommends you contact the main store It appears that what you experienced was a result of an error by the appointment desk. When the appointment desk closes they switch from the recording you heard to an after hours message. The day in question, the appointment desk clerk forgot to turn the proper recording on. Please be aware, however, that the appointment desk hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and not 4 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. problem All-night- er Why are civilian personnel allowed to at the participate in the an it have to be Would NCO Club? possible just for military personnel? faf -- all-night- ers all-nigh- ter The NCO Club is a membership club and not open to the eeneral public. Again, I think the ISO 1st deserves a lot of praise for the effort they put forth in providing a fine service for Hill AFB users. Thank you very much for taking time to recognize the efforts of our people. Your comments have been passed along to those involved. It is satisfying to hear the positive things our people are doing. , Although she was unable to reserve a mini-vabecause they were all rented, I believe she performed above and beyond the requirements of her job and should be commended, for a job well done. The second person that I feel deserves special recognition is Kaye Clark. I called SATO to try end book hotel reservations, but was told that without a specific hotel name it was impractical to pick one I did not know of any hotels at this TDY location. went to the SATO office and Kaye spent half an hour going through a listing of government rate hotels and booking one within the per diem rate. In light of the earlier comment I received on the phone, I think she performed beyond the requirements of her position. I would like to thank both women for their outstanding service. n, 1 . : would like to thank two people in the Scheduled Airline Ticket Office for their superior service. "LO.U. Quite some time ago, two members of the Landing Gear Team needed assistance in locating assets which had been delivered from Bldg. 507 to a point unknown on the base. They had to be expedited for delivery to a contractor. The item manager and production manager contacted the gentleman who had delivered the assets. Steve Ames in the Technology and Industrial Support Directorate, traced his delivery from the original drop-o- ff point from building to building accompanied by the item manager and production manager. After much searching, the assets were located and marked for shipment. Without his diligent searching and his obvious depth of knowledge, these assets might still be awaiting shipment. His assistance was invaluable and his attitude was the can-d- o type that we count on for help. The Landing Gear Team wishes to express our thanks to Mr. Ames for his help.
