Show 1992 April 23, 3 Hilltop Times Generals take their show on the road by Capt. Leah M. Bryant AFMC (Integrated) Office of Public Affairs AFB, Ohio (AFLC-AFSNews Service) The vice commanders of AFLC and AFSC took to the road from late February to early April, explaining Integrated Weapon System Management to the future Air Force Materiel Command. Lt. Gens. Charles J. Searock Jr., Air Force Logistics Command, and David J. Teal, Air Force Systems Command, traveled throughout the two commands with an IWSM Road Show. During the road show, they updated hundreds of people, senior leaders and managers, on the progress of IWSM. They also briefed audiences at headquarters Air Force Communications Command and the Pentagon, as well as industry representatives. Integrated Weapon System Management is the cornerstone of AFMC (which will form July 1 when the commands are integrated). It is a cradle-to-grav- e approach to the acquisition and sustainment of weapon systems. It gives managers the authority needed to satisfy customers throughout the life cycle of weapon systems, military systems and commodities. Therefore, it's part of IWSM," Searock said during his April 6 visit to the Aerospace Guidance and Metrology Center at Newark AFB, Ohio. "No person or program in AFMC will be exempt from the tenets of IWSM," he said. The road show also visited the center April 6. "We, here at CASC, have no choice but to change, and your road show efforts ... will help us to help AFMC implement IWSM," said Col. Thomas L. e Jr., CASC commander, in his opening remarks for the road show. The road show ended April 7 at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, Tinker AFB, Okla. Many questions on how to implement the new management philosophy were raised at the sites the road show visited. Members of the IWSM office here are now adding these questions to the electronic IWSM Bulletin Board, available to users on compatible electronic mail systems. The field units are also submitting issues that need to be resolved to implement IWSM. They are tracked on the issues section of the bulletin board. According to Searock, all IWSM issues will remain open until the parties concerned are satisfied with the reply or outcome of the issue raised.
