Harris Hilltop Times staff writer Hill AFB will be chosing a new rodeo queen. Current queen, Lori Jo Evans of Hooper, will pass her crown to a new Miss Rodeo Hill AFB on Wed" nesday. '; Eight women, all from the surrounding area, will compete for the prestigious title. They will be judged in three events: appearance, personality and, the most important, horsemanship. The competition will begin Wednesday morning with a luncheon at the Hill AFB Officers' Club. There the contestants will model western style clothing and answer questions. The contestants will then be privately interviewed by each of the seven judges. There they will be judged on personality, appearance and their knowledge of horsemanship. The competition will then move to the Golden Spike Arena at the Weber County Fairgrounds in Ogden. Beginning at 6 p.m., the contestants will be judged on horsemanship abilities. They will ride both their own horse and a randomly selected horse belonging to another contestant. The winner will be crowned at the conclusion of the competition. Michelle Dales Ms. Bates, daughter of Auburn and Pamala Bates, lives with her family in West Point. The plans to attend Weber State College in the fall to pursue a nursing degree. The Clearfield High School graduate said she has ld been riding horses as long as she can remember. She also enjoys swimming, basketball and nursing. "I would like to be Miss Rodeo Hill AFB because it would be a great experience and an opportunity to meet new people," she said. Kendi Kennedy Ms. Kennedy is the daughter of Roger and Julie Mills of Hooper and Dennis Kennedy of Ogden. She is a graduate of Roy High School and plans to attend Weber State this fall. has been listed in Who s Who of The American High School Students. She has also been a Future Farmers of America Royal Chapter horse judging team and also involved in Previously, she was named Miss Weber County Junior Posse Queen, Defense Depot Ogden Junior Queen, Miss Rodeo Plymouth, Utah Quarter Horse Association Junior Queen, Strawberry Days Rodeo Queen and currently is the Miss Hooper Tomato Days Queen. Her hobbies include painting, drawing, outdoor sports and, of course, horses. "If I were given the opportunity to become Miss Rodeo Hill AFB, it would be a memorable experience that would continue with me throughout my life," she said. ld 4-- Elcfferyn Hcicllo Ms. Maiello is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Williams of Roy. She currently attends Roy High School and serves as president of its FFA chapter. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. She also water and snow skiing, dancing, boating and river rafting. "It would be an honor for me to represent Hill AFB as its rodeo queen. The base provides Utah with a very important economic base and provides . training and jobs for many people," she said. ld en-jo- ys Nicole Maughan Ms. Maughan is the daughter of Dave and Gloria Maughan of Hooper. She attends Roy High School where she is an honor student, a member of the National Honor Society and Student Achievement Association and is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She entered her first contest when she was 5 years old. Now at 17, she is reigning Utah High School Rodeo Queen and was chosen as second attendant to the national queen last July. "If I was chosen as Miss Rodeo Hill AFB, I would do all I could to promote rodeo and keep our western heritage alive," she said. Hollie Moore Ms. Moore is the daughter of Scott and Janet Moore of Coalville. She is a sophomore at North Summit High School where she is an honor student and a member of the rodeo team. She also serves as an officer in the North Summit FFA chapter and is the Chapter Sweetheart. The currently serves as second attendant to the Summit County Rodeo Queen. She has also participated in and judged several horse and livestock shows. For fun, Ms. Moore like to camp, play the piano and show her prized sheep. "I would like to represent the employees of Hill AFB at parades and rodeos because I am proud of the defense systems which they have developed and continue to improve,' she said. ld Iccoy Potorson Ms. Peterson is the daughter of Randy and Larie Johnson of Hooper. The Roy High School graduate was the first recipient of the Royal Crown Pin in recognition of several national honors. In 1987 she was named both Utah and National High School Rodeo O ien. She has also graduated from a professional modeling school. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, basketball, Profiio of a warrior Keeping command section running 20 I sV 1. Christa Stevens Joy Willoughby biking, aerobics and waterskiing. She is currently employed as a private secretary in Morgan. "Because my heart is definitely in it, I feel I have the understanding of what it will take to be Miss Rodeo Hill AFB. This title would allow me to serve my community and will open many doors for me," she said. Christa Stevens Ms. Stevens is the daughter of Louis and Annette Stevens and lives with her family in Hoytsville. She attends North Summit High School where she is an honor student. She also is president of the rodeo team and participates on the basketball and volleyball teams. She has also been an officer in FFA and has served as a member of the national horse judging team. The has been Miss Summit County Rodeo Queen's first attendant the last three years. She has also been Summit County Dairy Princess' first attendant and has served as FFA royalty. "I would like to be chosen as Miss Rodeo Hill AFB because it is a prestigious title that I would be honored to hold. Being a rodeo queen takes a lot of dedication and effort and I will put my heart into this responsibility," she said. ld Villoughby Joy Ms. is the Willoughby daughter of Glenn and BetCoalville. of She graduated from ty Willoughby is currently in her and School North Summit High junior year at Utah State University, majoring in elementary education and early childhood development. . In high school she was the speech and drama Sterling Scholar and was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She also was the FFA Sweetheart and attendant to the homecoming queen. Other honors include Summit County Rodeo Queen, Oakley Rodeo Queen, Lehi Roundup first and first runner-u- p in the Summit County Scholarship Pageant. Her hobbies include snow and waterskiing, basketball and the piano. She also is involved in Special Olympics in the Logan area. "Miss Rodeo Hill AFB must be able to work with the public, take the time to share a kind word with the disabled or sign an autograph for a child.
