Gen. James W. Hopp, Ogden ALC commander, at an awards banquet Dec. 15. SMSgt. Mark C. Gossett, a 2849th Air Base Group munitions operations superintendent, was named top senior noncommissioned officer. The selection for NCO is TSgt. Laura A. Gibson of the 2892nd Distribution Squadron. SrA. Brant C. Bushnell of the 2892nd DS was named top airman. SMSgt. Robert J. Richko, first sergeant of the 2721st Munitions Maintenance and Test Squadron in early '89 and now first sergeant for the 2849th Security Police Squadron, is the top first sergeant :. of the year. with the Air winners the General Hopp presented Medal. Force Achievement This is the first step in the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year program, which is sponsored by the Air Force Association. Each major command selects its outstanding airmen to receive this recognition. The selection was based on a combination of criteria including leadership and job performance, significant self improvement efforts and leadership displayed in social, cultural or religious activities. SMSgt. Mark C. Gossett Sergeant Gossett is widely recognized throughout the Air Force as the No. 1 expert in the critical field of worldwide munitions logistics support operations. He helped develop an innovative approach to reclaim previously unserviceable aircraft gun amm- unitionwhich improved supportability, saving the Air Force millions of dollars and more than 200,000 rounds each year. "I think it's important to stay in touch with our sense of mission," he said. "We don't want to get bogged down with paperwork and wrapped up in it until we lose perspective." He was born in Wheeling, W.Va. He joined the Air Force 18 years ago. the people... I have a lot of mentors," she said. She was born in Rochester, N.Y. She enlisted in the Air Force in December 1979. SrA. Brant C. Dushnoll Airman Bushnell is currently a depot storage crew member assigned to the Munitions Division of the 2892nd Distribution Squadron. His policy is to "do it right the first time' He said, "It's important that people can count on you to do the job, and do it right, especially with the budget cuts we're facing... it's very serious and we can't afford to take short cuts." He was born in Tallahassee, Fla. He enlisted in the Air Force in May 1987. SMSgt. Robert J. Richko Sergeant Richko has developed many programs to improve the morale, welfare and performance of the enlisted personnel of the squadrons he serves.
