Jensen Ogden ALC Public Affairs Office The Hill AFB slowpitch softball team managed to capture a second place in a tournament, held last weekend in Layton, Utah. The American Softball Association tournament was the first of the year and the Hill club earned declared Draise from head coach David Hall. "They looked impressive for their first time out," said Hall. "I think this team represents Hill quite well. We represent almost every organization on the base." The Hill varsity club played in six games, bringing home second place and a 2 record, losing to the same team twice. Ellis Printing dominated the ball diamond, challenged only by Hill, but managed to outlast the Falcons. Hill started the tournament in fine style with a 21-- 0 blanking of McCats. The base club met Ellis Printing, who n runs managed to score a and held a powerful Hill team to a single tally: Hill bounced an unidentified team 15-- 0 to advance to the quarterfinals. 4-- half-doze- The Falcons had little trouble, hitting Barlow Realty 15-- 5 and advancing to the semifinals. According to Hall, the Hill club will play every weekend in the Layton Abbott leads CES to fastpitch victory Top flight pitching by David Abbott and a powerful offensive showing by 2849th Civil Engineering Squadron provided more than enough excitement in the season's opener of the fastpitch softball season. Abbott guided his team from the mound to a championship finish as intramural teams kicked off City Class A division, plus participate in tournaments every other weekend. We won a couple of tournaments and placed second in a couple." Returning for the Hill squad are Dave McGarr, Gryff Rasco, Sam Miller, Jeff Kissner, Steve Smith and Jim LaCroix. The team is headed by Hall, who returns for the team this year as head coach. 3-- 2. The Nautilus certification class has changed times and will now be held Tuesday at 9 a.m., Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday at 4:30 p.m. There is a $2 fee for this service. Certification is required for all military, Department of Defense, civilians, and retirees and dependents. Guests cannot be sponsored to certify on the equipment.
