Show outdoors Cabin fever? Try something new The depths of winter are the times that try our tempers and test our capacity for boredom. About the time we've fired our ten thousandth imaginary shot at the calendar scene on the wall, meandering with rocky memorized our dream about Florida bonefishing and shoveled our way out of the driveway so often that it's beginning to look like the bottom of the Grand Canyon out there, we develop what are technically know as the screaming jeebies. If you're like me, you certainly can't afford to fly to Walker's Cay when this disease strikes, so what is there to do? The answer to winter is not beating it but joining it. Now is the time to go ice fishing, try cross country skiing, take your kids sledding, take a stab at or take some coyote-huntin- g snowscape photography. Winter is the time when all of this becomes possible. Those short winter days can fill up awfully fast for anyone willing to try even one or two of them. To fill in those long evenings, how about learning to tie flies, taking a hunter education course, raafc Marv's Auto Would Like To Thank Their Customers For Their Business Throughout Tho Year-- She was wild when we Wildlife Every bald eagle should have a patriotic name like Stripes, according to raptor rehabilitator John Bicking of Moab, Utah. The injured bird was transferred to John and Marily Bicking at Canyon-landwho consulted with veterinarian Paul Bingham and the Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colo. The decision to release Stripes was made to coincide with migration of the bald eagles in February where they mate and produce offspring. With this in mind and with Stripes' excellent recovery, consideration was given for Stripes to socially interact with other eagles. "She was wild when we got here," said Mr. Bicking, "and she's still wild. She was brought to Rush Valley just north of Cedar City to be released." Last month, Mr. Bicking reached into the transport cage to release Stripes. She hissed and tried to bite his thick leather glove, but didn't as she moved near the cage entrance and took to the air. These days, almost everything comes in a kit, from hunting knives to telescopes. Outdoors folks can make and use nearly all of it. Best of all, combine your day and night activities. By day you can hunt coyotes and by night tan their hides and make great fur clothing. By day you can take snowscapes and by night develop your own film. By day you could ice fish and by night create ice flies or smoke your catch. Involve your entire family. Take the. drive to Hardware Ranch for the sleigh rides and show them the herds of regal elk that winter there. Rent cross country skis for everyone and enjoy helping each other learn to use them on the local golf course. Cabin fever? Sure.
