While this fact proved somewhat of a disappointment to the team members, they took much satisfaction in the reali- zation that the title remained at Hill and that several of the other top honors came home to the 419th. Commenting on his Top Gun win, Major Hamilton said, "Even though 'Top Gun' goes to an individual, it's a team effort. I can't say enough for the maintenance people, who work on the planes and load the bombs. The support our families have given us has been great, through the long hours of practice and lots of early morning departures. I'm proud to be able to win the trophy and bring it back to the unit. The key was having a good aircraft and a little bit of luck." Colonel King echoed the praise for the maintenance performance during Gunsmoke. Asked about the team's overall standing, he said, "If we had to lose it, I'm glad it was to the 388th. They're a bunch of good people1." Lt. Col. Terry Paasch, who headed the maintenance contingent, said, "The hard work and preparation paid off, as evidenced by the way our jets looked and performed. Finishing first in maintenance two years running tells you what kind of people we have. The 4 1 9th continues to be one of the best because everyone gives 110 percent it's called 'Pridt n excellence!" Col. Forrest Winebarger, 419th TFW commander, summed up his reaction to the wing's performance by saying, "It was a superb team effort. The consistency of our outstanding record at Prodi, Gary Cole, SSGt.
