The award was based on small business contract awards exceeding goals established by the Office of Secretary of the Air Force. In regular competition (bidding between small and large businesses), the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization recorded small business awards of $258.2 million against their assigned goal of $185 million. In money set aside strictly for small business procurements, the SDBU posted $128.1 million against a goal of $75.6 million. Of the $128.2 mil" action lion, $25 million represented one "set-aside- transaction ever for the Ogden the largest ALC and the largest in 1984 for the Air Force Logistics Command. According to Johnny C. Bryan, chief, SDBU here, award. The Ogden ALC was also cited for establishing a small business minority directory after polling each small business firm in America. This directory allows better matchup of Ogden ALC procurement requirements against minority firm capabilities to ensure better government procurement actions. set-asid- This system is being computerized and will be distributed to the other ALCs this year. . e Be in his corner! l (TTiUtfTte Small Business Week begins Sunday By Linda Droesbeke Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization Small businesses which provide crucial spare parts for Air Force weapon systems, aircraft repair components and a wide range of services will be recognized during Small Business Week beginning Sunday. In a proclamation, President Reagan stated that enterprising determination to work and to prosper is embodied in more than 14 million small businesses which "provide the technology to keep the economy growing, the manufacturing and marketing skills to keep the nation competitive and the innovation to guide us to a better future." President Reagan also stated that aspiring en trepreneurs have always been on the "leading edge" of invention and progress in our society and their confidence in the future has led not only to the creation of new jobs, but of whole new industries. We all benefit from the contributions of small businesses and those who create them. At Ogden Air Logistics Center, small businesses are key sources of products and services needed to ensure that weapon systems are ready and can respond effectively to all national emergencies. Maj. Gen. Charles McCausland, Ogden ALC commander, has directed the continued support of personnel to the important national resource of small businesses. He points out that small businesses are essential to the overall structure of defense that we all depend on.
