Show HILL TOP TIMES Friday, November 2, 1984 action ine 7 Action Line is your opportunity to keep Hill AFB a great Air Force base. When you call Ext. 77000, your comments will be recorded and staffed through the responsible agency for action. It is requested that you give your supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to work with you in answering questions and solving problems before calling Action Line. This will help Action Line to better serve the purpose for which it is intended. Maj. Gen. Charles McCausland Commander, Ogden ALC aircraft. When comparing Aero Club prices, the Hill Club prices are not out of line with other aero clubs. Another club has Warriors ranging from $29hr. to $36hr., depending upon the newness of thef aircraft and the quality and level of the installed equipment. Our Warriors are all new, fresh off the production line, and moreover they avionics equipincorporate new, ment which gives them a redundant Instrument Flight Rules capability. Add to this the reciprocal capability of landing at other Air Force bases to take advantage of Aero Club benefits, reduced fuel and maintenance costs, etc. I feel the Hill AFB Aero Club does offer considerable savings from what one will experience by using a commercial operator who is in the business to make a profit. The Hill AFB Aero fund activity, is Club, a a to recreation facility for all provide designed eligible members at a reduced cost when compared to commercial ventures offering similar services. Should you reconsider and rejoin the HAFB Aero Club, I am confident that you will be well pleased with the operation. state-of-the-a-rt QI my membership Club because the prices seem to be way out of step with aero clubs elsewhere. I found I can save money on the rental of aircraft at the Ogden Municipal Airport, and they do not have take-of- f time restrictions or limitations and advantages are services there. Just what provided for Hill Aero Club members? I appreciate your question as I am sure this-verthought is on the minds of other individuals as well. However, your comments are not totally accurate. The Piper Warrior can be rented at Ogden Airport for $40hr., but their aircraft for instructional purposes, you must use their instructors at $17hr. Therefore, for a one-hoinstructional flight, the cost is $57hr. plus tax. Additionally, one can either accept a $1,000 deductible insurance clause or elect to obtain full coverage with no deductible for $1. The total cost is now over $60 for this and each similar hour. Compare this to the Aero Club's charges for the same first hour: rental fee for the Warrior, $35hr.; instructor fee, $10; monthly dues, $15. This totals $60 for the first hour which includes unlimited insurance coverage with $250 deductible. Subsequent costshour are reduced to $45hr. after the initial hour, thereby providing non-appropriat- A to-us- Helper positions competitive e thought helper type positions were to give us an opportunity to get and advance without a lot of a field career into QI ur prior experience. Recently several helper positions have been filled with persons who have several years' experience to their credit. Isn't this taking career opportunities away from a new field? those of us who desire to break-into I believe that a brief description of the helper program will help you to better understand the principles of the program and answer your question. Helper positions are filled under competitive procedures. Because of a high declination rate, A position vacancies are announced and interested employees are asked to submit to the Civil Personnel Office an AFLC Form 3549, Employee Position Change Request. No specific experience or training is required; however, candidates must have the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. A written Office of Personnel Management test is required or the applicant must be currently working in a helper trainee, intermediate or journeyman level trade or craft position. The em' ployees who apply for these positions are interested in advancing, to the higher grade level of the helper position! Those are the essentials of the program. It is a good program and has provided an opportuniemployees to change their career ty to e The goals. applicants under the program have their own reasons for seeking condideration for helper positions. It is our intent that all "employees have the opportunity to compete for positions they qualify for and all unnecessary restrictions to that opportunity are intentionally avoided. The act of applying to a vacancy announcement indicates interest in the position. My Staffing Section does not have a legal or v regulatory basis for eliminating applications based on the degree of interest expressed by the applicants. They all may express the same interest you have in helper positions. on-bas- West area chuclcholes For the past several months there have been bad chuckholes in the road at the bottom of the ramps near Bldg. 1245 in the west area. Are there any plans to correct this problem before winter sets in? The Facilities Board has approved the projects required to repair the 1200 zone ramp as part of the FY86 O&M Program.
