Concern was expressed about the social problems all our cities and citizens face today in our rapidly changing world. Even small towns in rural areas are becoming more familiar with problems they thought only happened on TV or large cities. The attitude "it can't happen here" has fallen by the way side. Drugs, Alcohol, Child Abuse, etc., are found throughout our state. Ignoring these problems won't make them go away. We need to make ourselves more aware of workable solutions at our disposal in order to improve the quality of life in our areas. Lets all become more involved in our communities become more aware of the problems facing our city. Let's help out where and when we can. Although we don't have the social problems in the proportion the larger cities have, we still have them on a smaller scale. The drugs, alcohol abuse, and child abuse are here. By working with the ' different together to us we available organizations can make a difference! 1 ;L : 6th ' ;l"1f s - m. But before you crank up the engine, consider these safety tips from the Utah Safety Council. Your mower should be in good working order to meet all safety requirements. If you have any doubts, have it checked by a professional before usinf it. Make sure you know how to use the mower correctly and read the instruction manual. Dress properly for the job by wearing sturdy shoes and long pants. Aviod loose clothes and jewerly. Stay away from the blades while the mower is on and avoid running over rocks and large sticks that can be thrown by the machine. Finally, keep pets and bystanders away from the work area at all times and ensure that gasoline is stored away from the house in approved containers. Gardening tools make hours of hard labor a bit easier, but a lack of proper handling and care could lead to serious injuries. The Utah Council has these Safety for the suggestions taking hazardous edge off simple gardening tasks: (1) . Punture wounds and falls can occur when rakes, spades or hoes are left hidden in the grass or leaves. Be sure to put these tools away or lean them against a tree with their prongs facing inward when you are not using them. (2) . Protect your tools from rain, snow and dew by storing them in a basement. This will prevent blades from rusting and handles from weakening. Hang them securely from a tool rack with their prongs turned toward the wall. Injuries can also result from flying tool heads. Broken handles leave sharp edges that can pinch fingers and lacerate hands. If your tools are cracked or worn, have them fixed or replaced.
