The American Mining Congress, with 500 corporate members including mineral producers and mining equipment manufacturers, has informed BLM that they are equally concerned about this potential hazard to small wildlife. They have pledged to alert their membership about this problem and to work with miners, BLM, and state mining associations to come up with appropriate solutions. The new BLM policy directs field offices to work with appropriate state agencies and the mining industry to eliminate identified wildlife hazards associated with some plastic or metal pipes used to mark Since mining claims. marking of mining claims comes under provisions of state laws, which vary across the country, implementation of the policy wUl e coordination. require BLM wildlife biologists believe that the pipes pose a hazard to small birds and reptiles because some species have a tendency to , enter pipes to escape predators br to find shelter or nesting areas. Once they get into a pipe, either through a hole in the case', of perforated pipe or through the open end of hollow, uncapped pipes, they are trapped. The new policy requires afl BLM State Directors to assess' lands under their jurisdiction to identify any hazards to wildlife as a result of pipes used to mark mining claim boundaries and discovery points. ' Concurrently, all? BLM . State directors will, Y contact, flie responsible state agencies to clarify the authorities under which actions can be taken. State Directors are also directed to initiate a joint effort to develop action plans to eliminate any hazards to wildlife posed by pipe markers on existing mining claims. Also in concert with state governments, BLM will take actions to preclude use of perforated and uncapped pipes in the future. No.0896-3312- Thursday March Under the Mining Law of 1872, a person may prospect on public domain land (lands that have always been in federal ownership) and stake a claim on certain kinds of minerals (e.g., gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper). Mining companies and small miners are required to mark their claims and provide the specific mining location with other information to BLM. There are approximately 1.2 million mining claims on public lands. The actual methods used to mark mining claim boundaries and discovery points are governed by state law rather than federal law. All public land states except Montana currently allow the use of plastic pipes to mark mining claims. BLM mat most estimates markers are wooden posts, trees, or stones, but also estimates that there may be several hundred thousand pipe markers on mining claims on the public lands, primarily in the West Generally, the pipe being used is solid pipe that is not perforated, although some mining claimants drill holes, presumably to place location notices in the pipe. In addition, some pipes are uncapped. To date, only BLM's state office in California has reported significant wildlife losses due to the pipes. A recent BLM check of 730 plastic pipee markers in California revealed 168 dead lizards and small birds. Although an informal survey of other BLM state offices has to date revealed either very minor or no problems with wildlife losses due to pipe markers, BLM intends to pursue a nationwide policy on the use of pipe to ensure that future problems do not occur. BLM News state-bystat- . This was due to over 250 wrestlers, ages Kindergarten thru 9th grade, plus their family members coming to participate in our bantamWrestling Tournament. Twelve different schools were represented mis year, giving the wrestlers a variety of opponents. The Tournament started at 9:30 a.m. and all macthes were over by 2:30 p.m. There were eight matches going on at once on the gym floor, which was covered end to end with red, white and blue mats. The matches moved quickly, keeping spectators interested and participants busy. From comments heard, the majority had a good time. The top three wrestlers in each bracket seemed pleased with their efforts as they smilingly accepted their Championship Medals. The organizers of this Bantam Wrestling Tournament, would like to thank all those who helped in any way to make this years Presidents' Weekend Tournament a success. Without the help and support of all the good people in this community events like this one would be next to impossible! It takes hours of planning, gathering of materials, advertising, setting up, just to get ready. A special thanks to those coaches and parents from other towns, who were so willing to lend a hand when necessary to make the progam move more smoothly. It's people working together for the benefit of all that gets the work done. Thanks again everyone for your help and support! Milford's Population Increased by about 500 44 L L You were correct in tng the I approved the article entitled "Monologue" by John D. Jenkins. I find it to be his attempt to answer deep questions regarding his approach to, and understanding of, life as he seea it As it relates to "religion", n specifically the religion..."Religion", as defined in Winston Dictionary, page 819, definition No.4, "Conformity to the teachings of the Bible; Christian faith and practice; effort by man to attain the goodness of God". This is a universally accepted definition. On this basis I will analyze his article in answer to the points you raised, which were published as my last article on Thursday, March 1, 1990. Your points (Numbers My answer: (A) 1. "He sees no difference between God and Nature." A. His paragraph which may have caused your question indicated his reasoning for taking up religion: i.e. "To become a better person, a worthwhile person and a moreover, loving, knowledgeable persons concerning of Nature God...". Genesis, Chapter 1, bears our the creation of all nature by God. Mr. Jenkins also states, "The Creator is mirrored in His creation and His laws are very apparent." As a student of the Bible you will likely see the truth. 2. "He rejects the book (i.e. Bible) but claims to know what compassion, goodness, evil, etc., 3. "He does not recognize that Satan is a real personality whom the Scripture distinctly labels "The Evil One". Jenkins uses a A. Mr. metaphor which, to him, depicts me infectious nature of sin. He does the not deny nor confirm personality of Satan but describes the perniciousness of eviL believes in "He 4. reincarnation., an idea that is refuted in no uncertain terms in the Bible." A. The statement by Mr. Jenkins, "Evil is a VIRUS that infects the mind and, ultimately, the soul killing the souL I don't mean that the soul is annihilated. God does not annihilate Himself. I mean that the soul is dissolved into a primordial substance and recreated in another time and place", may have led you to believe he is a proponent of reincarnation. The actual intent is Biblical the underscore to statement, "You must be born again", and the validity of the "Resurrection". God is the Judge of the Universe, as stated in Matthew 7, verse 1, and in Luke 6 verse 37 regarding judgement. 5. "He equates the soul of man with God. This is not Biblical but Eastern Christianity, Mysticism." A. In Genesis 2, verse 7 is found, "Then the Lord God formed man of the dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breathe of life; and man became a living thing." The soul, or spirit, having similarity and kinship with the "Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, Spirit of the Lord, Ghost, life" (from the Concordance of the Holy Bible). The reference of Jesus in Matthew 22, verse 21, "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars and to God the things that are God's", implies that each man's eternal soul belongs to God. This equates the relationship of the soul to God. Without that which we call the soul the body has no life. Concerning your statement mat I, "being a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, having to do with an individual that rejects the very message He 'is put to proclaim", my answer is: ' Because of the statements and charges of Jesus Christ in Matthew 28, verse 19, "Gg and y make desciples of all nations...", and In Mark 16, verse 15, "Go into all the world and preach", does not preclude any man from receiving or preaching His message. I, as you, accept the Bible and Jesus Christ as the authority for living in His name.. .as, I believe, does Mr. Jenkins. It is therefore in Christ's name that all men are declared brothers and living the faith in Him, as the SOn of God. We are ALL the children of God.
