He is an unseen, unwelcome visitor in our home that cau- ses unusual little disturbances at a fairly constant rate. For several months he insisted on turning a lamp on in the family room whenever he took a notion. We didn't complain too much about it, however, because he also liked to turn it on when our daughter and her boyfriend were watching TV. He sort of kept them on their toes! Lately he lost interest when we stopped getting up in the middle of the night and just left the darn thing on. Yahoodie has been blamed for the failure of the boiler sustem in our antiquated home, the peeling of the wallpaper, the dripping of the faucet and all other problems that exist, real or imagined. When the front door sticks, Yahoodie did it. The light bulb in the garage burned out Yahoodie again. The dog barks all night when Yahoodie stays outside to tease him. How come the car is out of gas? Yahoodie went joy -- riding! Where are the car keys? Yahoodie hid them . Who ate the last piece of cake? That's right, Yahoodie did it. It must have snowed again last night, the walk that I shoveled off is all covered with snow. Wrong! Yahoodie spent half the night out there shoveling it all back on again. Yahoodie has a ferocious appe Published in the Beaver County News on January 21, 1988. He will eat anything Including socks (he never eats a whole pair, just one). Homework or other Important papers, mens neckties and the last of anything including the or hides the pancake turner. Once we decided to give him a birthday party but he jumped up and down on the kitchen floor and caused the cake to fall. My wife was so mad, she fed the cake to the dog, which really confused poor old Rocky, because his birthday is in March. If you dont have a house gremlin of your own, I feel sorry for you. Everyone should experience the joy of having their very own gremlin. In fact, just to show you we care, we would like to offer the loan of Yahoodie to any one of Yahoodie to anyone who would like to try him out for a year or so. In order to qualify for this honor, simply send your name and address to me at this newspaper. I will leave all the applications out where Yahoodie can read them. That is if he doesnt eat them first!! last of the toilet paper, are all part of his regular diet. Yahoodie is quiet most of the time, but occasionally in the middle of the night he will Imitate a couple of cats fighting in order to tret Rocky, our outside dog, into a frenzy. Yahoodie loves to upset Rocky. He also likes to move Rocky's dog food dish about 3 inches past the end of his rope. House gremlins like to do things like turn on the flashlights and let the batteries run down, change the setting on the toaster so the toast will burn, leave the hot water on Sunday morning and keep the car from starting when you are already late. Yahoodie shuts off the alarm so you wont get up in the morning and one of his favorite tricks is taking all the covers off my wife and piling them on me. That was, I die of the heat all night and she freezes. The next night he may reverse the process. Yahoodie has been known to lay under the bed at night, making loud snoring noises that get blamed on me in the morn- HILFORD SCHOOL ing. Gremlins did not come to this country in the manner you saw in the movie of the same name. They were originally planted here in the early 1940's to foul things up in defense plants. After they learned to love Americans, they saw the error of their ways and abandoned their activities. They have never been able to shake off the tremendous drive to play pranks, however, and continue to be pests in various places around the country. Yahoodie probably moved in here after the war and decided to stay, I don't know for sure, but he was here when we moved in. At first, we didn't recognize the fact that we had a gremlin. After awhile though, we got tired of trying to explain all those little happenings as just coincidences and gave him his recognition and the name of "Yahoodie." He seems happy with it and does not bother us any more than say Bigfoot did with "Harry and the Hendersons." Yahoodie is hard to love, he always manages to do something to get your dander up. Just when you think he is behaving himself, he ups and clogs the drain on the washing machine, LUNCH WANT Milk Tuesday, January 26 Chili Cole Slaw Peaches Hot Roll Milk Wednesday, January 27 Creamed TunaToast Buttered Green Beans Apple Crisp Cheese Slice Milk Thursday, January 28 Italian Spagetti Buttered Peas Clilled Pears Garlic Bread Milk at Helene's Help Wanted: Waitress, Lunch hours Restaurant.
