Many a free breakfast has been served by Dan to some poor fellow down on his luck. Dan Martin gives his customers quality service that equals any European restaurant you might have visited. His guests are always assured of great eating when they sample the innovative entrees he provides. One of the secrets of the Ponderosa Restaurant success is the personable staff that Dan hires. Be has bad many of them ever since he opened almost twenty years ago. Most of his summer employees return year after year until they graduate from High School. Dan Martin has a tremendous appeal for the youth, and you can sense that by the number of young people that work for him. When Dan came out of the Army to 1946 after serving in Korea he worked for "Twists Cafe. Twist was a master chef and Dan stepped right into his shoes, and never lost the touch. After Dan married Eyvon Davis they moved to Pioche, Nevada and lived there eight years. He had many experiences working as a lineman for a power company and also in the mines there. He became the manager of the PIE Trucking Company, but when the mines closed and the trucking company moved, he and his family moved back to Beaver and he became a car salesman for Pearson's at Richfield. And then he became the manager of the Ponderosa in Beaver. A cherished part of Dan's boyhood was growing up in the little town of Greenville where be was born, along with his seven brothers and sisters. This is probably where he learned to love nature and horses. All through the years since he was a small boy and became a jockey and rode in the races he has loved it. He goes to all the races he can as far away as California, Nevada and Arizona. His father and brothers were great hunters and he spent many hours with them in the hills. Ill bet there is hardly a road that Dan isnt familiar with. He still has the urge to roam the mountain trails whenever he can get away. Dan has always been very civic minded. He served as President of the Lions Club and also the Rod and Gun Club in Pioche. He's always loved golf and worked many hours to make it a beautiful golf Dan has many hobbies and loves to work outside. He spends many hours improving his beautiful yard. He loves to help his neighbors keep their places looking nice. He mows their lawns in the summer and clears their snow away in the winter. On Mothers Day Dan Martin invites all the widows in Beaver to a special free dinner at the Cafe. He loves to visit with each one as they come in. It's a place where every morning at six or seven o'clock the rs gather to talk over their problems with their fellow farmers and neighbors. Then the door opens and the business men start arriving for thai steaming hot beverage they think they need to get started in the morning. How about the tourist who pulls in after a long nights drive across the desert. You might see a stray salesman or a trucker or a family with sleepy beaded children. What a welcome sight to see. Of course, Dan didnt have the heart to tell them and graciously served otherwise them their Mothers Dinner with all the hospitality he could. There is never a funeral in our town that the families dont receive a pan of hot rolls or a delicious pie or two from the Cafe. Dan Martin has strong family He and Eyvon have three ties. children and several grandlovely children. They have made the Ponderosa Cafe a place to be proud of. As the fall leaves take on their glorious colors and the deer season is upon us I see a man with a big smile in a white shirt, greeting his guests at the door and I can't help thinking to myself what a great man we have in Our Town. Milton and Rosemary Bowman from Farmington, Mew Mexico are visiting their son and family Getta and Craig Davie. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Limb drove to Vernal to visit their children and celebrate Gordon Limb's birthday. Heen and Delroar Gray drove to Pioche, Nevada to visit Ileen's sister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Swindlehurst are here to enjoy the deer hunt and to visit with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Tex Marshall and sister Margie and Tim Marshall and family. Paul and Margie Thompson from Bountiful are visiting their mother Vernon Thompson and doing some hunting. Louis and Helen Bushmon from Boise, Idaho visited Phil and Lola The P.ohert Eastons from Buhl, Idaho have been visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fas ton and Dave Pearre. A brother Richard Easton, flew out from his home in Indiana to hunt deer with his familv. Alan Farnsorh of Mesa, Arizona and other familv members are enjoying a short vacation ithAlan's mother, Kathleen Farn worth. Mrs. Devrna Griffiths lias teen confined ir, a Salt hospital n ufrating from leg surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wilden visited in Nevada recently and attended the wedding of a niece. Jeff Lindsay of California is spending a week with his father Jim Lindsay and taking in the deer hur.t. RaNor Pearce is spending the weekend with his father Dave Pearce Guests at the S. Albert Smith residence the past week were John Jackson and family from California. Dale and Paul Less in g of Salt Lake joined their father Louis Less -ing and Hal for the deer hunt. A Mike Keller, also came from Price to be with them . son-in-la- w, Roberts. The family of Neal and Helen Davis had a retirement party for their father. He has milked cows at the old dairy barn for many-yearand then he went to work for Lee Hayward and Kent Mar- s shall. Ruth Hayward from Ely is visiting her family Rulon and Rachel Eyre, Truman and Irma Eyre and Clark and Mary Gillins. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Craw are happy to get a new grandson. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. Steven Craw of Cedar City. This is number three in the last month. Great grandmother is Iris Will yard from Milford. Donald and Betty Pitchforth are visiting their sister Vern and Florence Wood. They are going to get wood and pinenuts. Coy Roberts from Oregon is here visiting his family. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Craw and George and Dorthy Reck from Salt Lake City. Elaine Craw is visiting in Las Vegas with her sister Don and Jamie Ross. Mr. and Mrs. win v C5 k DONALD LIVINGSTON Term Born and raised in Milford. Having lived in larger cities just out of school, I realized the "small town boy" beckoned in me and I came home to farm. I reside in the City of Milford and care what Term Graduate of Milford High School and now working for the Union Pacific Railroad. I plan on raising my family here and would like to see Milford prosper, not blow away. I am running for office because I feel it is time to get a more thorough understanding of the city and the "system".
