Primbs , Jr., an missile systems hardness engineer ICBM " y i , ; Inc. , e with was notified last week that he had received a $100 invention award for an idea he developed while serving as a captain in the 6514th Test Squadron as a flight test engineer. The then Captain Primbs invented a Thompson-Ramo-Woolridg- telemetry load link to determine the strain on a steel cable as it was stretched. As a result of his invention, there is now a safe and easy means of gathering cable strain information ff SMS u from the Mid-Ai- r Recovery System winch cable. The information gained is necessary to ensure safe operations within limits of the winch and its cable. If a cable is snapped it could cause a helicopter to crash during a recovery operation. Mr. Primbs was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho, and served in the Air Force from 1972 until 1980. He earned a degree in engineering electronics while on active duty. In addition to his job with TRW, he is also in the Air Force Reserves.
