Few questionable claims are paid as a result of these efforts. The following list provides guidance which travelers may use in preparing their claims: Travel expense claims should be based on actual expense, not what it should have cost. Travelers should be prudent and choose rates and meals as though they were using their own money. Travel should not be an attempt to get more than authorized or necessary to accomplish your mission. Increasing travel expenses and making fraudulent claims is not justified because of a ruined and personal lives Irreparably damaged as a result of individuals trying to obtain a few extra dollars on a travel voucher. Don't jeopardize your entitlements, your future, or your job by such actions. Personnel in the Accounting and Finance Office are trained to examine each travel voucher for possible fraudulent claims. Auditing 40,000 vouchers each year makes them extremely proficient at their work and adept at identifying discrepancies. Vouchers which are obviously fraudulent are turned over to the Office of Special Investigation (OSI). Others which appear previous travel experience where claims were not paid because the law did not allow from the airport, mileage cannot be claimed. When a spouse accompanies the traveler on TDY, the traveler must claim the single rate for the motel. A traveler with a rental car on TDY cannot use it for personal sightseeing without identifying and paying for the extra mileage.
