There were 113 starters and 111 finishers. Almost half the runners were people associated with the base as employees or dependents. The race was sponsored by the Turtle Trotters Jogging Club of Hill AFB. Overall winner was John Totaro of Layton in the time of one hour, one minute and 19 seconds. ONLY ONE MINUTE behind was John Krawchison of Price. Ron Barker of PocateUo, Idaho, had the third best time of 1:03:58 followed by Michael Call of Orem in 1:04:05 and Ernie Davenport of Hill AFB in 1:04:11. Ribbons were awarded to the top five runners in each of ten age divisions. First place winners in each division were: MEN: Leland (19 and Under) Totaro, (20-24) Barker, (25-29- Gary Berkner, ) (30-3- 4) Call, (40-4Davenport, and (50 and over) Bill Lewis. WOMEN: (24 and Barker, (35-3- 9) 9) Karen Under) Candace Vittner, (25-3Darden and (35 and over) Katsuko Smith. Col. James Bassett, Deputy Base Commander, presented the awards. Each finisher received a Certificate of Participation for their efforts. The Turtle Trotters were assisted in staging this run by many volunteers including military and civilian personnel, wives and friends of runners, Security Police, Base Hospital and Gymnasium personnel.
