Show October The Intermountain Red Cross Blood Service and Intermountain Health Care THE TWO AGENCIES have joined together forming the Consolidated Blood Services (CBS) of Utah which is designed to make it easier to give blood, to eliminate waste and competition through improved coordination and to work toward avoiding unnecessary duplication of efforts. (IHC) Affiliated Blood Services (ABS) announced in June an agreement to develop a coordinated program to meet the blood needs of Utah. Historically, the blood needs of Utah have not been met promptly at all times because of irregular participation by some Utahns in blood-dono- r programs, and because of a lack of coordination in the distribution process. Presently, donor participation in Utah is 50 per cent below the national average. 3 units, existing hospital blood donation Last year, Utah residents used some 60,000 pints of blood. It is a major effort to meet the ever increasing need for blood through donations, but the new committee is confident that, through coordinated efforts and increased positive community participation, these goalo can be met. organization's program. Committee members met in June for the first time as an official group and the document establishing the CBS Coordinating MEMBERS of the Coordinating Committee of the CBS of Utah are listed below: Committer; was signed. CURRENTLY, ARC and IHC's ABS draw the vast majority of the blood required in Utah. This new organization will develop a coordinated recruitment and distribution program. The recruitment and distribution programs will make it easier to give blood because the donor can give to either organization and receive credit from both organizations. For example, if a donor gave blood at an IHC hospital or mobile unit and was admitted at Holy Cross Hospital, which receives the blood from ARC, the donor could get credit for the blood given to IHC. 2 1 :;' mm TIMBER LAKES LOT NO.
