HE SAYS HE CAN WAIT 10 more years, if he must, until he completes 20 years with Uncle Sam. In And not wear. the meantime, he has developed a personal style of dress. just by the name brands sewn into the clothes we hours, Sergeant Phifer sheds his uniform During his y and dons apparel befitting his chosen alter ego. the labels that describe categories of HE WEARS IMPORTED, custom-mad- e knits, nylons, velvets and laces in shades of pink, purple and baby blue, adorned with fur trims, gold chains and other among others furbelows. We each "wear" people. The most obvious labels most commonly used depict: off-dut- Sex (male-femalAge (young-old- ) Hats to match, a black cane topped by a fist depicting the "Peace" greeting among brothers, and sunglasses inscribed "The Prince" complete his attire. Dressed in this manner, he recently made the rounds of local production companies, answered classified ads, and landed a job doing TV commercials. WHEN HE FIRST ENTERED the office of the company that produced the commercials in which he is seen, he was greeted with, "You're the answer to our prayers!" e) t He first was considered for one of four parts in a current bank commercial in which four black men carry a throne bearing a black princess, but was not selected because he wasn't "beefy" enough. "I KNEW l, MY WIFE wouldn't believe me when I told her, so I asked them to call and tell her. She was surprised and is delighted," quoth The Black Prince. Common labels that apply to SSgt. Luther V. Phifer of Hill AFB can be summed up briefly. Sergeant Phifer also is being considered for a speaking role in an upcoming feature film to be produced locally. It deals with the occult and is said to be in the tradition of the recent film, "The Omen." HE IS A young American black male Protestant of African descent who is in good health, married, the father of five and employed as a packaging specialist with the 2952nd Combat Logistics Support Squadron. If he doesn't land the speaking part, he will serve as an extra and has been asked to recruit blacks interested in such employment. He also is a North Carolinian, former security policeman, veteran of 10 years' Air Force service, a Vietnam veteran, chaplain's assistant selectee, flamboyant dresser, commercial movie star. talent, and would-b- e STARDOM NOTWITHSTANDING, Sergeant Phifer, of course, will continue to perform his duties at Hill as a packing specialist until February when he is scheduled for assignment to Keesler AFB, Miss., for into the chaplain's assistant career field. THE OTHER label, "The Black Prince," is indicative of the sergeant's desire to be individualistic and of his ambitions. cross-trainin- g SELF-IMPOSE- D Upon completion of training at Keesler, he will be assigned to Lackland AFB, Tex. Sergeant Phifer wants to break into show biz. That's not easy when you have a 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. job with the military and are assigned to a base far from major casting SSgt. Luther offices. V. Phifer UNDOUBTEDLY, the sergeant also will hope to be utilized in the upcoming feature film or other commercials, adding entries to the portfolio he has started in Utah.
