HILL TOP TIMES 1978 Cope Elite 388th deployment ends; mi of friendship, hard work "XT Operation COPE ELITE ended last week with the return of the last plane load of support personnel and maintenance equipment from Barber's Point Hawaii. The 4th, 34th, and 421st Tactical Fighter Squadrons had all experienced the unique flying environment the Pacific offers. Maintenance crews had worked many long, hard hours to keep sortie rates as high as possible. Now, J 3 f&K i L after four months, all of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing personnel 1 r I .J were home. Most were happy to return to spouses and friends, and cherished the long awaited reunions. But still, in the back of some minds was the realization that the deployment had been a unique mix of comradeship, hard work, and the beautiful scenery that Hawaii meant during the days of COPE ELITE. fe " ?
